wait, i don't understand how ahx2wav works. :o

can someone tell me how to, in noobian language?

Well I used some crossflashing from cdfreaks and my Pioneer 111-D 1.19 is now a 111-L 8.29. This STILL hasn't changed the book type to -ROM for me when I burn a disk. ImgBurn is still showing the same "Unknown (FAILED!)" message when I select DL. Damn, this thing was been one loooooong @s$ project! Anyone have any suggestions I can try?

teamjh: if what you want is importing ahx files from old games, you can just convert them to wav, listen to them, and if it's the ahx you want imported, then note the filename down (then delete the wav). check what you want on SvR 08 replaced, then replace that with the ahx from the old game you choose. (did i just make sense)?

wouldn't know what to do if you intend to import other files though. i have never tested the ahx to wav program but thanks for the heads-up that it won't convert wav to ahx; thanks freezer and teamjh!

I didn't get it at first, but now I gotcha. What your saying is just pull the AHX from the old file (say from SvR 2007), listen to it using AHX2WAV, and if that's the sound file you want, take the original and plaster it into the new file (SvR 2008 in this case). :-P that would make sense. I haven't tried it, so the only issue I can forsee happening is that the AHX sound standard is new (as the YAF archive file was) and won't be present in past games. But I haven't tried yet. I'll keep you posted.

As for how to work AHX2WAV, I can explain no problem. Keep in mind, though, that I have no clue how much experience you have with DOS. All the info on how to work it is in the Readme file, but if you've never worked with DOS syntax before, you wouldn't have a clue how to read it.

Take the ZIP file (ahx2wav_v014mod.zip...I downloaded the modded version as I read some problems people had with the original; however, it shouldn't matter which you use) and extract its contents to the C:/ drive directly (or whatever letter your main hard drive is). DOS doesn't recognize non-alphabetic characters like spaces or percent signs, so make sure your directory reads something like C:/ahx2wav014mod/ (you might want to shorten the extract folder as I did because of the following step...it just causes less hassle).

Now that you have that taken care of, unload any AHX files you want converted into the same folder as above. Hit your START menu, then go to Run... Type in CMD and a DOS prompt should pop up on your screen. No matter what directory you are in, you should be able to type "cd/ahx2wav014mod" after which, your prompt should read C:/ahx2wav014mod/>

Now you have two options:

A - Type in "ahx2wav *.ahx" (minus the quotes), and the program will convert all the AHX files in the "ahx2wav014mod" (or whatever your program folder is named) folder to wav format.

OR

B - Type in "ahx2wav RINGA_0000.ahx" (no quotes, and replace RINGA_0000.ahx with one specific AHX file name) to convert one specific AHX file to wav.

Doing things this way, the program will only read from the directory it's located in (i.e. c:/ahx2wav014mod) and will only leave the WAV files in the directory the program is located in.

I got pretty wordy with how to do this, but hopefully I helped. It's actually pretty simple once you understand DOS a little bit. And again, I don't know your level of DOS experience, so I made it as basic yet specific as I could.

Some people have told me that Vista doesn't work well with DOS programs like this, so you might have to download DOSBox or some other DOS emulator. I've never had the problem, as I'm running XP so if you need that, just Google it. You should be able to find one.

I haven't completely read up on your problem, so if you've already done this, pay no attention. However, some DVD drives simply refuse to change the booktype to DVD-ROM. I had the same issue. I run Boot Camp on a Mac laptop, and my laptop won't change booktype to DVD-ROM. However, my desktop PC will.

Also, just to forewarn you, the tutorial at the beginning of this post suggests you use a DVD+RW with the booktype changed to DVD-ROM to see if your mod works before you use an acual DVD. However, I tried this on my PC and it didn't work. DVD-RW might, I don't have any of those.

Sorry if this was no help, but I figured I'd give you my experience (for what it's worth) with booktype changing.

I did see that, I have tried DVD-R, DVD+R, and DVD+RW. My PS2 will read the +/-R but I get and error message. It will not even read +RW. So in other words I spend $40 on a DVD burner which is useless, as I only bought it so I can burn this freakin game, and have wasted like 80 hours downloading programs and reading tutorials for nothing? GREAT!!! I don't understand how I everyone else can burn this crap except for me, yes I'm a noob but COME ON ALREADY!!!

I saw your thread in CDFreaks.com, so I know that you were sucessfull upgrading the firmware. :) I will try to help you.

First, to get the best results for PS2, you should ONLY use DVD+R from now on!

Everytime you will burn a DVD+R it will automatically do the bitsetting to DVD-ROM for you! So no need to worry! :)

I recommend Verbatim DVDs. Besides Tayo Yuden that's the best quality you can get. I use blank DVD's like this: Verbatim DVD+R 16x

Then I only use Nero to burn the ISOs/images!

Here you can download a portable (no need to install!) version of Nero 7. Works for me like a charm. Just download it and extract the package. Then start the Nero.exe that's in it.

Then this it what you do:

1.Put your blank DVD+R in your burner

2. Start Nero. A window "New compilation" will pop up. Click it away by hitting "x" or "Cancel".

Now your screen should look like this:

Nero1.jpg

1.Make sure you select the right DVD-Burner (DVR-11)

2. Go to "Burn image..." under "Recorder.

A new window will pop up:

Nero2.jpg

3.Select "All files" to see all the files.

4.Choose your ISO of your game!

After that a new window will pop up:

Nero3.jpg

5.IMPORTANT: For best results select 12x speed (If you use 16x Dvds like me)! In the picure I accidently chose 8 (recommend for 12x Dvds)!

6. Make sure you set the right settings!

After you did all that, hit Burn and your disc will be burned! That's all.

If you still can't get the DVD to work, you have serious problems with your PS2 or yous simply don't have a modchip :p

Wait a minute, I need a Modchip for this to work?!? I asked in the very begining if I needed to buy anything and that was never mentioned. Well now that makes sense because I followed your directions to a tee freezer and the disk still shows a load error when inserted into my PS2. Unless it is the disks I am using, Memorex DVD+R recordable 16x 4.7 GB. Where can I get a Modchip to work with my PS2? Here are a couple of links I saw, can you tell me if any of these would be good or what is the best? If I can avoid it I really don't want to crack open my PS2 and solder a chip in it. Can you still use Codebreaker with slide cards?

Unless you have a better product suggestion that is. I have a PS2 Model No. SCPH-39001. Freezer, you mentioned you saw my post on cdfreaks, were those the hacks you were refering to? Thank you for posting the instructions for me, I'll still be able to use them eventually.

So I tried finding AHX files in all of the following Smackdown games: HCTP, SvR (the original), SvR 2006 & 2007. Nothing. The sound standard for all the files there were ADX, so transferring announce names from past games to SvR2008 is out of the question.

Am I missing something? It seems like there have been no other posts about AHX files, so either no one else has tried to change the announce name files, or there's already some way to do so. Either way, I'm running on empty. I haven't been able to find anything. I wouldn't even mind a program to convert ADX to AHX. Any suggestions, yo?

Try there. You can play backups (as far as I know) with some of the cheat devices. I have ARMAX, so there's an entire tutorial on how to set things up with that. I would suggest that if you're going to be using modded backups regularly that you either invest in a hard drive for your PS2 or a flip top (both should be tutorialized on the page above) as pulling your PS2 tray out is really hard on the gears and the laser (from what I hear). If you can't find anything for Codebreakers or anything that might help you on that page, try searching the rest of the forum. Afterdawn has been really helpful for me to playing modded SvR.

As far as DVD writers go, I don't think you have to be too picky. The PS2 DVD player is pretty outdated by now (unless your talking about the slim line, but IDK how updated they've got that). However, once you get your PS2 set up to play backups (mod chip or memory card exploit or whatever), make sure that you're creating ISOs using Gnie's XPert and make sure you burn at the slowest possible speed. Most people say you need to put it at 1x, but I've been using 2.4x (which is the lowest Nero will go for me) and it works fine.

Most people will probably tell you that getting a modchip is your best bet. However, I've never seen a need for it. You'll have to do a bit more searching to find out how to set up your PS2 for backups, but it can be done without a modchip and even inexpensively (it didn't cost me a dime, although I already owned the ARMAX cheat device...and I will soon be purchasing a fliptop, but that's neither here nor there).

I bought a PS2 shell from eBay last year. It is for the bulky PS2 but instead of the case being black it is a clear teal. The top also has a flip top you can use along with the usual slide out in front. I stopped using it though because for whatever reason, the flip top was giving me problems when I played Star Wars Battlefront II. I would have to eject the disk and push it back in because it would get stuck during loading. I thought that I read a Modchip wasn't needed but I though maybe I miss read the info. As Freezer suggested, I may have a messed up PS2. I was on a site trying to check what version I have but mine is not listed so I e-mailed them with all of my info. Doing a quick check on the link you posted though teamjh14, I found that I have a V7 PS2 main board so thank you for posting that! I've soldered Modchips in PS1's before but it is a pain I'd rather not deal with. From what I have read up on Modchips in the last hour though, it appears not all of them will work with Codebreaker which would suck. Mainly because I will need Codebreaker for all of my SVR 08 hacks. This is going to end up like the scene from Indian Jones and The Last Crusade, "You must choose only one but choose wisely!" I do realize I AM indeed a noobie pain in the ass but I'd rather double check with people before I run out and spend money on something I cannot use. Know what I'm sayin' Mean Gene BROTHER!!!!!

Yes you installed the right firmware. I used the the same.

About modchip:

Well I too didn't install the modchip myself. I'm too afraid for such actions lol

What I did was to order a completely new PS2 Slim with a built in modchip on a special online shop in the internet a few years ago. I even got 1 year warranty so it was a great deal - this modded PS2 wasn't too expensive so I was very happy :) (I highly recommend Matrix Infinity modchip (if you want to buy a chip). The Chrystal Chip is also good (I have it) but there's not been a firmware update for a long time - seems like dead.)

I needed a modchip because I've a PAL PS2 from here in Europe. And you can't play NTSC Games from US or Japan with it - really sucks for me. I like Roleplaying games like Xenosaga, Suikoden and so on - games that never appeared in Europe which is the reason I wanted a modchip. And since I play Import games regulary a modchip is a must, cause I'm not to keen on using Swap Discs everytime want to start a game...

In your case however, if you only want to play with your modified SvR game, a software exploit method like Swap Disc might be completly ok! ;)

You wrote that you have an old "chubby" PS2 with Codebreaker 8, right?

Well if thats the case you only need an USB drive and you are good to go. At least that's what I read here: Exploit FAQ. Method 2 might be the solution for you. I stumbled upon this guide accidently and I think it's very good (and funny :D ) Should answer a lot of questions.

Hi. I have the PS3 Version if the game and when I run the YAF extractor, all I get is an empty listview. No errors or anything. Is it possible the PS3 uses a different format to PS2 and PSP?

I can send you the hex headers for the yaf file if you like.

about the adx-ahx file thing, I'll see if we can import the adx announcer intros to replace the ahx intros from 08. I'll see if it still works. unless you already did it...

i also hope that we can edit the music.yaf file from th psp version. i'm really getting sick of the music there during matches. plus with the psp, once we find out how to edit music there, it'll be easier. no burning required, lol.

Yea PSP is much easier, All you gotta do is re-build the ISO. It's Simplier then it sounds.

I did, actually, and you can't replace an ADX with an AHX. In the YAF file, you can only replace files with a file of the exact same name, extension and all. The one thing I haven't tried is to just straight up rename it. However, I don't think that'll work as, from what I can tell, they are two different sound standards. Also, ahx2wav doesn't like it when I do that :-P

I think the AHX standard is new to 08, and as of right now I haven't been able to find anything to create AHX, from ADX or WAV. If anyone finds anything, let me know.

Hey Freezer you were on the money with that link, I got my copy to work!!! Anyone who might be intereseted in playing a copied game with out a Modchip, check out this link http://www.exploitstation.com/smf/index.php?topic=5841.0 to read the tutorial and get the files for creating the program, then this link http://www.exploitstation.com/articles/FAQ.html to read the tutorial on how to play your copied game with the program you created. You will need a cheat device such as Gameshark or Codebreakers for it to work though. Just wanted to pass that on to anyone who runs into the same problem as I.

Now that I have this done my next task is to create and replace the entrance video's. Is there a list of who's entrances belong to who as well as the folder they are contained in? I read through the tutorial in the begining of this thread and it is for SvR 07 so some things are a wee bit different. I did not see a more recent tutorial posted anywhere. Any accumulated knowledge anyone can drop on me would be appreciated!

Hi,

I already described where you can find the vids of SvR08 and how to look at them yourself:

You can take a look at the sfd files yourself. Just use AFSExplorer to load the NVM00x.AFS file of the MOVIE folder. Then

"Action"-->"Export folder" to extract the sfd videofiles of the selected AFS. Now you can take a look on these sfd files with a good videoplayer like Media Player Classic (kicks ass in comparison to WMP10/11!) ;)

Here you can download it. No need to install, just small and that good:

MPC (german)

MPC (english)

And here's a basic guide I wrote for replacing SvR07 vids with your own: SvR07-Videoediting

Should work with SvR08 although I haven't tried it yet. I suggest to replace the vids of SvR08 with vids of SvR07 or SvR06. Will soon upload the titantrons of SVR: Here comes the pain ;)

I just put a up a list of all the videos of the MOVIE folder of SvR2008. Maybe this helps :)

It's okay; I actually tested it with Winamp; what do you know, it worked. Too bad they were just looped after a minute, though.

I am now trying to make a new backup; different music. And I am going to experiment changing some Normal versions. I know it's been mentioned here that the Normal theme of a superstars would play when he/she wins. Well, I'll be changing the themes of superstars I very rarely use (Finlay, Piper, etc) and see if it's good.

The thing that frustrates me, though, is the fact that a hell of a lot of duplicates aren't "Normal" themes. From what I understand you can only replace the Normal versions if you want to be able to choose them. Jeff Hardy has two Face versions, Melina has two face versions...Mr. Kennedy has two Normal versions, but I don't even know how if I can change one. I mean, he only has one name in the roster list. I would have understood it if Melina had two Normal versions, or even three, because Melina, Nitro, and Nitro & Melina hold the same theme - but I guess they only gave that one placeholder. So I can't replace anything from there, and I can't replace any of the 7 DX themes in there. Dammit.

I have a video request; I couldn't download Super. Could anyone convert this, if possible without the first second-and-a-half (so it matches the audio)? I really would want that version of his theme for the game.

And if possible, have it uploaded via torrent because my PC's rapidshare/mediafire interweb download skillz aren't exactly good right now (2 kbps being the fastest FTW). If not it's okay; I leave the PC on almost all day anyway, lol. I would really appreciate the help, guys...thank you!

PS If anyone wants I have some themes here; I might have a few you need :D

When a tool is updated/released to modify the reserved space for AHX & ADX files, I then will write the guide on how to "Import Music Into Matches" for playing during matches. The music will play randomly like it does on the menus. You will be able to import 90+ songs of your choice into your game during matches. Since this game saves alot of space you may get to import 100+. Definitely for RAW & SD! arenas.

I know everyone reading this thinks I am full of crap, but I did this on SvR!07 too. If anyone wants proof just PM me and I'll send you the files to replace for '07.

Whoa, now that is useful. What is done there, basically?

Do you replace the commentary or just play over it? Because I would so use that instead of SmackDown commentary. Ugh.

If you do get to tinker with the reserved space for music files, does that also give us a chance to use them as entrance themes? This is a very useful option. :D

Yes it replaces the commentary since the commentary is useless. As for the music files as entrance, I don't think you need to modify space for entrance because I already replaced superstar themes with my own entrance themes, and also I replaced the menu music, though I had to shorten the menu music.

Yeah; but what I was thinking is, if there is more music space, could there be more entrance theme options. But thinking about it now, I don't think it'd be possible since it does replace the commentaries. If that is to happen, though, I'll just replace the SmackDown! ones. Haha.

Thanks for the info good sir. A lot of people would definitely be waiting for that. wooo! :D
