I'm here to let you know that Sound Editor is not dead. I will continue developing it and also release updates if necessary.

Over the past few months, a lot has happened in my personal life — unfortunately, my mother passed away, and it’s been a very difficult time for me. That’s why there haven't been any updates in quite a while, and some annoying issues (like TTS not working or broken YouTube links) have been around for longer than I would have liked.

My goal, however, was never to push out a new version every year, but rather to build out the platform and make it as compatible and stable as possible. Fortunately, it’s still working well overall.

That said, I will be releasing an update in the coming days, in which both the - TTS and YouTube issues - will be fixed, and the database will be updated to 2K25.

I’m incredibly grateful that some people took the time to keep the tool alive by regularly updating and maintaining the files — that really means a lot to me. Thank you so much!

For that reason, this updated user file will also be included in the next release.

Thank you for your loyalty and support — for every donation, every kind word, and for continuing to use SE!

Man, so very sorry to hear about your loss. God bless you. Real life comes first and I'm glad you took time (and hopefully will continue to do so) to grieve and heal. You've done so much for this community, and even if you never updated anything else in the future, we have been so blessed by your efforts and your talents.

I still use SE all the time (was actually using it right now as I jumped onto Smacktalks!) and I as so grateful for the tool! It has completely revamped my modding experience and has made things infinitely easier!

My game of choice is much older (2K14) and though I know it's not as widely played as the new games, I'm grateful you added its capability to the Sound Editor! Is there any chance you might be able to look again at the Sound Convertor tool within SE for 2K14? Unfortunately, it still doesn't work for that game, which leaves me having to make WEMS using the old version of WWise, a rather tedious process. All the same, I am eternally grateful to be able to import files into 2K14 with SE without having to hex edit...such a game changer!

Damn, I'm sorry to hear that. I also lost my mother this year due to Cancer. I know exactly what you're going through.
I hope everything gets better for you.

Hello. Every time I try to download the installer I get a message saying “Setup Error! Could not read setup package.” Does anybody know why I could be getting this message and what I can do to resolve this? All I want to do is play some 2k with some more customization and for months on end this website has failed me. I can’t even make an account to pass the “security check” whilst answering the security check correctly every time. Is this whole website bugged? Has anybody else has this issue?

Disregard the end part of my message in regard to making an account. Turns out I had to write a post first to be brought the account creation section with having no issues creating it. Otherwise going straight to “sign up” gave me issues.

I have a feeling that people who are having trouble with Sound Editor must have an updated version of it. I'm running version 2.2.0.0 and it works flawlessly. Download the version I have and install it. And don't update it! See if that works for you. I've been able to mod sound files in 2K25 with no issues.

I'm not sure if this is a common issue, but I keep trying to update Sound Editor cuz it doesn't show my game files and the zip extractor just sits at a standstill. Does anyone know how to fix this?

@TheVisitorX, I'm so sorry to hear about your mother, my condolences.

I am currently using your tool to mod the ps5 version of the game, however the ps5 version only supports Wwise Opus. Can you please add a temple in the sound converter module for this codec. I am manually converting the using wwise and confirm that these inject fine with you tool into the ps5 sound banks. However conversion with wwise is very time consuming.

I updated my original install of the program before reading your post here and the TTS wouldn't generate anything when I hit generate. Then I read this and thought maybe it was an issue with how it updated, so I uninstalled it and grabbed the version you linked here instead. The same issue is happening though. I'll select the model, type the name, hit generate, and nothing appears.

Got any idea as to why?

I am having the same issue.   I can import music all day long... so got all of the custom music I want, but can't get the TTS to work for the custom call names

Wish I could help, but I don't know. I've never used the TTS feature, as all the call names and commentary I import are actual audio files from Howard Finkel, Gorilla Monsoon, etc. So, I'm not even sure if TTS works on my version either. @TheVisitorX is who you need. Perhaps he can figure out the issue and give us an updated version of the tool.

Does anyone know if this will work with 2k26, considering it now uses Denuvo?

Posted (edited)

Seeing as it's an non .exe mod it should unless they've changed the overall file structure.

I can conform Sound Editor does not work with 2K26, something about the .WEMs the game uses now do not work with Sound Editor. It will not playback any of the existing .WEMs in the game, and if you replace a track it will just be silent in-game.

Can confirm this. Tried to replace two generic music tracks, and both are silent in-game.

That's a huge bummer. Hope Sound Editor can be updated, but it seems the creator has been out of contact for a while.

I've been watching for some updated version but I don't think the creator is around anymore. Dose anyone know of another tool to use to change the music.

There is another one but it's one of the ones behind a paywall.
