how to mod

Hey guys, I just signed up for Smack Talks to learn how to mod 2k19.  it seems like it's difficult.  I want to combine characters from 2k14 - 2k19 together but I think I read somewhere that 2k15 and so on has better capability.  What are the best programs to use for modding?  And also, should buy the. steam version of WWE 2k19 or a physical copy for PC?  I've. done some research on this but I just want to make sure.  Sorry I'm only a beginner and I've never done stuff like this before.

I think as someone new you should take some time to check out the sticky threads in the various (I think three) modding related subforums for 2k19.  Take some time to read tutorials, or at least make mental notes of what kinds of phrases you see tutorials mentioning, so that later when you run into a situation or question those tutorials might help you solve you know right where to fly to on the forum.  Just case the joint, ya know?

Programs I definitely use and think are a must:  Data Editor, Custom Character Tools, Sound Editor, WrestlePlus

Data editor will come in handy when you want to deal with character's names, moves, etc...  and you can basically assign hidden moves/entrances/animations to characters there too.  Plus much more for character-handling.

Custom Character Tools will be handy for literally injecting the files you created with Data Editor into the actual game, and also for extracting files from the running game to deal with names, moves, etc...  (.pofo and .moveset files)

Sound Editor is your answer to any music you want for any character or any show or even during the menu.

WrestlePlus is fun for me when it comes to making special modifications to a match while I'm on the character select screen of a match.  LOTS you can do from that point!  Make custom 2 vs 3 vs 3 matches... do a lot of managers...  just all kinds of fun scenarios you will be able to come up with when you see all the options and the way you can assign teams, etc...  Lots of fun!

Thank you so much for your help and response!!  I’m sure I’m going to have a ton of questions along the way.  I hope people are patient with me because I have no clue what I’m doing.  I want to mod this game with the biggest WWE 2K roster I can think of.  Not only am I doing this for me but I want to surprise my girlfriends oldest son with this too!!  I can’t wait to spend hours on this!!
