Does anyone know how to fix this. I have to start it in window mode in order to use a controller, otherwise it doesn't recognize the controller. My XBOX One controller works properly with every other game, but this one.

Have you tried unticking all controllers in the STEAM controller settings, it was the only way I could get my XBOX One controller working correctly.

My xbox controller worked out of the box, without any setup. I did do a xbox controller setup a long time ago in Steam Big Picture mode, maybe thats why it's working. You could try and have a look at Big Picture, I think it has a controller configuration were you can pick what type of controller you have.

right clicking WWE 2K22 and going to properties/controller and setting it to "Disable Steam input" fixed all my controller problems. also make sure your controller is turned on/connected before launching the game.
