Which version of the game to start with (standard/deluxe)?

I suppose what I'm wanting to know is, is it necessary to get the deluxe version of the game? If I get the standard one, are there mods to unlock the extra content?

You can get any version on Steam, but you can only use and mod content that you own on Steam. So if you want any of the DLC, you'll have to buy it, in which case the Digital Deluxe Editiion is probably the best choice.
