Control Switch Mod?

I was just wondering if anybody has ever looked at making a mod which allows you to switch who you are controlling midway through a match? 

I have no idea what would be involved in such a thing so apologies if it's a stupid/impossible idea, but it's one thing that would make a huge difference to how I (and I think others) play the game. Is it at all possible?
