[GUIDE] Editing facial animations in entrances

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

So while trying to figure out the 2K14 entrances, I accidently discovered that the facial animations in the entrances can be edited with RIDICULOUS ease. All you'll need is Pozzum's Animation Editor and PacEditor.

This guide assumes you know how to extract, decompress and inject using PacEditor. This guide also assumes you know what the motion and camera files are in an entrance, what the YANM blocks mean between the motion and camera files (read the thread that's hyperlinked in "Animation Editor" if you don't know) and that you know how to inject using the Animation Editor.

With all that said, here we go!

1. Go to the evt directory and select the entrance file in PacEditor.

2. Decompress the EVZ (second entry in the listing) and save it somewhere where you can access it.

3. Open the EVZ in PacEditor and click the "Extract All" button.

4. Open the motion file in Animation Editor. Extract the ones that end in "1", apart from the first one that ends in "1".

5. Launch what you've just extracted in Step 4 into a hex editor.

6. Do a search for the string "YMAM" or "M_Head". This is what I have.

7. Scroll down a little further and you'll see this:

8. What you are seeing are animation references that correspond to the facial animations on the model. To change the facial animation, simply change the reference from when it happens in the animation itself to a different one.

Now, I should say two things. Firstly, I haven't found what all the animation references are. Some are obvious in its name. For example, "Happy" is what you'd expect - happiness! (:p) "Surprised" is obvious. Then you run into ones such as "stcky_R_jaw025", "stcky_R_jaw050", "stcky_R_jaw075" and "stcky_R_jaw100". Someone's going to have to look at what each one of the IDs are.

Secondly, this is only editing the animation references as to when they happen in the animation. I haven't figured out the duration or if it is possible to add references. Baby steps, however... ;)

I shall leave you with this.
