J N Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Hello! Thanks to the support I've received from this community I have been able to implement many Mods and feel that I have a pretty good understanding of the basics. Yet, for me, one question remains... How the hell do you make Mods? Meaning, what program is used? What is the process like? Does it differ substantially from the 2k17 CAW? I suppose it may be different for different creators. Before installing everyone's sweet mods, I spent the majority of my time in 2K doing CAWs (user: jus.nathaniel - check me out in CC) .... I'm somewhat artsy and am a bit obsessive on accuracy when it comes to rosters and attires. I think if I was able to learn how to create an actual Mod (unbound by the limits of 2k creation suite) I could really make some great contributions here. Do people just use the Create function within WWE 2k17, then export the files? Doesn't seem likely...There must be another way! Any assistance anyone can provide would greatly be appreciated! Thanks! The creation suite and creating mods couldn't be any more different The creation suite, you just choose your objects, your hair etc and it all gets placed on your superstar perfectly. Then all you do is tweak the colours and add your logos (and the logos look shit because they're just painted on). That's it. There's no way to export an attire or created wrestler, which would make things a HELL of a lot easier as we could add clothing objects in the creation suite, then export. But nope, we have to open up the files of the wrestler we want to use; find the clothing or hair object we want to use; single that out in their YOBJ file; export the object(s) from the YOBJ file; actually physically sculpt them around the wrestler in 3D modelling software so they fit them properly; test that in game and hope that a) it actually works, especially in 2K17 since more things don't work than last year, and b) hope that they look right, don't clip and that stuff that we want to have movement actually moves; then, once that's all done, you've gotta work on the textures, and when it comes to logos and stuff you've gotta keep saving the texture and previewing it in your modelling software until the placement is right; then test them in-game where they might not look right due to the lighting; then when they do look right, you've still gotta make sure you've done the normal files right so that things look 3D enough and aren't too shiny or dull. You have to do all that for every clothing or hair object you add. With 2K17 as well there's a file size limit this year as well, so there's only so much you can add, and a lot of objects from the previous games aren't fully compatible. That's just for objects as well, there's so much more that can go wrong and making new wrestlers takes hours and hours of face and body sculpting and endless in-game tests before it's done. So yeah, it's a LOT more complicated than the creation suite. 90% of the hard work done during modding, is done for you in the creation suite. You can get a much better result via modding if you know what you're doing and it's very nice to be able to add them to the main roster. It'd be really nice though if, once a custom superstar or superstar attire was made, that a pac file was then made for that attire or superstar so we could do most of the work in the creation suite and then do the texturing and stuff outside of the game. Doesn't work like that though, basically there are a few files that contain all the objects and textures you see in the creation suite and the game reads from those on the fly, pretty much. Oh, and if you wanted to create a mod then you'd need to fork out a little money for some tools also I guess the good thing there though is, once you've paid for tools you're more likely to stick with it through the inital learning phase (which is frustrating as fuck). 2 Quote
J N Posted March 20, 2017 Author Posted March 20, 2017 Well godamn Kinda sorry I asked. My apologies if I came across as ignorant in comparing the process to 2k17 CAW. Thanks for your explanation and looking forward to to more of your MNW mods! Appreciate what you do even more now! 1 Quote
