J N Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 Hi friends, Probably get these requests a lot. I'm entirely new to modding and I'm having some issues understanding some basic things. I tried to do some installing earlier today and ended up ruining my game. Now re-downloading (I didn't back up). I've been watching some tutorials and I thought I understood what I was doing, but this has turned very much to be not the case. I'm here to request help and support. Basic questions: What is a POFO file? What is a PAC file? How do I add MOD wrestlers (what is the process - I tried and failed at Cheat engine)? How do I "port" wrestler files from 2k15/16? Many of the MOD files I come across have the CH files but it is my understanding that I need POFO file? (i literally do not know the difference) I bet this all sounds hilarious to those who know what theyre doing. I simply want to learn and hope that I can one day contribute! Is there a resource that explains all of this to newbies like myself? Just direct me to the NOOB section please. I'll do my part to read and learn but as I said, I am getting confused by all of these numbers and I dont know what it all means!! Any assistance anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much. Quote
J N Posted March 18, 2017 Author Posted March 18, 2017 Also what tools should I use? As I mentioned - Cheat engine was a bust. I'm not opposed to paying for X-Packer if it will make my life easier. All I want to do is add some classic wrestlers - User 4Life has some excellent MNW MODS I'd love to implement if I knew how? Other than that, I'd like a Hogan and Yokozuna and I can likely CAW the rest. What is the simplest way to do this?? Thanks! Quote

Thanks very much. So, there are a few elements that have to work together to add a wrestler to the game. - The ch file is the character model, and that gets copied into the pac\ch folder. They are always .pac files (but .pac files can also be other things like menu graphics, game files, etc). - The pofo contains the character reference and basic information. Everything from which menu does the character get listed under, to height and weight options, to special abilities. - The moveset contains information about the wrestler's entrance (animations, music and titantron, etc.), as well as their full move set. The pofo and moveset files need to be installed either using Cheat Engine or CCT (Custom Character Tools). You picked a good time to ask about this, as Data Editor and Custom Character Tools were just released. You can find download links and info for both of them in the PC Modding main forum. To your question about tools, those two work well together and are the best place to start. The Data Editor opens pofo and moveset files, and lets you edit them. It can then send those files to Custom Character Tools, which is the program that actually injects them into the game. Copy the ch (character model) into the pac\ch folder, then run the game. Go to the main menu and then switch to CCT (leave the game running). Inject the pofo and moveset at the same time. This will install the character. But to make it stick in the game you have to make a change that will trigger the game to save the information. Easiest way to do that is to go to the Edit Superstars menu, and change one of the settings (like switch someone from Boo to Cheer). This will lock in your new wrestler. They'll show up in whichever menu the pofo has assigned them to. Also, make sure that the ch file, pofo and moveset have the same number - and that you inject them to the correct slot using CCT. That number designates the slot that you're adding the character to. If it's a slot that already has a wrestler, it will overwrite it. If it's an empty slot, it will add it. Some slot numbers aren't accessible without an additional tool that's currently being worked on. _____________________________________ For additional attires, you usually don't need to install a pofo and moveset because the game is already set up to recognize that character. In those situations, you just need to tell the game to recognize the additional attires. That's done with the Universal Alternate Attire Unlocker, which is contained inside the Data Editor (last tab, first button). _____________________________________ That's a super basic explanation, but hopefully enough to get you started. 5 Quote
J N Posted March 18, 2017 Author Posted March 18, 2017 Thank you so much! Very helpful in filling in some of the blanks. Appreciate you taking the time to explain this and in a way that makes sense to someone unfamiliar with the lingo. Sending good vibes your way Quote
J N Posted March 18, 2017 Author Posted March 18, 2017 Okay, just so I'm clear on this... Are the Moveset and POFO files necessary to add any given character to a game? After adding the CH.PAC file, can I just edit the Moveset and basic information in the "Edit Superstar" menu? Or Do I need to have the matching POFO and Moveset file injected into the game for Mod characters? I suppose this would mean that Mods are not available in "Edit Superstar" menu? Basically - Can I just copy CH files to PAC folder and edit the remainder within the game? Last things - Super String and Chunk Cache.bin It is my understanding that for MODs to work, I must first Replace the String file with the Super String file provided by user Possum After changes to files have been made, I should replace the Chunk Cache.bin with an text file of the same name? Are these steps required if working with CCT? Again, thanks very much! Quote
J N Posted March 18, 2017 Author Posted March 18, 2017 @tomwearsglasses - Just an update - I have successfully Moded! Following your instructions and consulting a few Youtube tutorials I was able to Replace Braun Strowman with 2017 version Add Kurt Angle with theme using Sound Injector Add 2002 Hulk Hogan with theme All using cheat engine! I finally got it to work! Where I'm at now: I have not tried to add any MODs with just the POFO and Moveset files. Is this possible or do I also need the CH files? I would like to add some of the many attire packs that I see on the board - I'm assuming I need to do with with the Data editor/Universal Alternative Attire unlocker. Haven't yet had the courage to try my hand at it, but I'll continue my trail and error experimentation. Thanks again! Quote

If you have a chunk cache 2 file do the same with that. These files cause modded games to crash. The super string contains updated text that goes with mods. Mods should work without it, but the names might not show up correctly. 13 hours ago, Just Not said: @tomwearsglasses - Just an update - I have successfully Moded! For the attire packs, you'll need to (1) add the ch files into the pac\ch folder, and (2) use the Alternate Attire Unlocker to unlock them in the game. It's fairly straightforward and works well. BTW - If you have enough computer space - I usually do a complete backup of the entire game folder and the save folder before I start modding. That way if I accidentally delete or mess up a file I can easily get it back. 1 Quote
J N Posted March 19, 2017 Author Posted March 19, 2017 Thanks again buddy. I've tried my hand at the Data editor but it's not agreeing with my resolution so that makes it doubly difficult. I have done the universal attire unlock...but of course still smoothing things out. Honestly I've been wanting to try this whole MOD thing for years and I thought it would be impossible. Thanks to @tomwearsglasses, @4 Life@WhereTheFdidTheEgo for the kind advice and guidance. Accomplished more in a Saturday than I thought would take a year. And thank you to all the moders and programmers who have made it all possible! 3 Quote
