Perfectplex Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 personal request to save me a hell of a lot of manual labour. Would @Cave Waverider @TheVisitorX @tekken57 @pozzum or anybody else be able to create a tool that takes a folder full of hex file names and rename them to decimal? I have googled to no avail but if anybody knows of a small tool that does such a thing, no complex installations of software packages and involving me having to write a bunch of commands please, I just want a simple little renaming tool that would take files like 00CA.pac and convert it to 202.pac for example but a folder contain hundreds of files in a batch conversion. I have a file renaming programme but it sadly lacks this feature. Quote
TheVisitorX Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 I have written something for you. Please let me know if it's working. Simply drag and drop the files to the executable and it tries to rename the files from hex to dec. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B663Soer5xMlLUtDbUR5cVRYRHc Quote
Perfectplex Posted March 15, 2017 Author Posted March 15, 2017 (edited) doesn't appear to do anything sadly. I don't mind doing them one by one if theres no batch possibility if you can fix it. Maybe it would be best if the tool itself goes in an empty folder, then I drag them from one folder and into the folder with the .exe and it drops the converted file there maybe?! Or maybe have it append the file with something I can remove easily like an X or something, like 0040.pacX or X0040.pac so it moves it to the bottom of the list. I can batch rename files but just not from hex to decimal. This is so if I drop 000A.pac it wont try to create 0010.pac when I already have a file called 0010.pac Here's a look at one of the folders for an example of what I need to convert, now imagine hundreds of files like that lol Edited March 15, 2017 by Perfectplex Quote
TheVisitorX Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 (edited) Argh. Try this one. It is now a Windows Forms Application. Open the exe file and drag your files to the Form. Converted files are in a subdirectory called "converted". https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B663Soer5xMlWXdoLTlxcko3OUU Edited March 15, 2017 by TheVisitorX 2 Quote
Perfectplex Posted March 15, 2017 Author Posted March 15, 2017 Sorry I was trying to respond sooner but the site was down, for me only? I don't know but I had this problem yesterday too. Anyway you absolute boss, this one works a charm and is fantastic. It is such a useful little tool and saves me a lot of time, in fact if you added a Dec to Hex function and a padding option I think you will find its going to be downloaded by a lot of folks who scour google for such a tool. If you don't/can't add the aforementioned features then no problem, as it stands I can pad the files with 0's in another tool, it would have just provided extra functionality for convenience. I no longer have to keep doing the hex math in my head when im renaming all the files im working on, which is related to that thing I mentioned it will be beneficial in the end when you see the results (hopefully). Anyway thanks loads, really appreciate this tool. Quote
TheVisitorX Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 (edited) Something like that? https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B663Soer5xMlT3RMX21Gemh6U0E Edited March 15, 2017 by TheVisitorX 3 Quote
Perfectplex Posted March 15, 2017 Author Posted March 15, 2017 (edited) No not something like that....EXACTLY that and you added extra sprinkles. This will definitely be one of those tools I will be leaving on my desktop for frequent use. Will add a couple extra quid on a donation I intend to put towards your new wave of tool/s soon, thank you for making that for me. I hope others stumble across it, Its pretty much a must have for people like me who like to rip all the files apart and experiment. Edited March 15, 2017 by Perfectplex 2 Quote
