Doesnt work in paint dot net you need to use Photoshop. I never managed to get a dds with alpha/normal to save correctly in paint dot net

Normally DXT5 depending on what the original was. If you open a dds file with a hex editor it will say if its DXT5 or DXT1 and make sure to look out for the value at 1C which tells you how many mipmaps.

ok so i will write down the value of 1c from the original dds and copy that value into the 1c from my edited dds did i get it right? (and of course save it with the same DXT from the original)

No in photoshop when you save a DDS file you get to choose how many mipmaps to generate or you can choose No Mipmaps if they arent needed.

Just remember that the value at 1C is a hexidecimal value so sometimes it will be 0A which is 10 or 0B which is 11 etc.

oh ok so now i think i understand. i have to look the DXT and the 1C value up in the original dds before editing and after editing, save it then with these values in ps.
