The Overrated and Underrated Movies you've ever seen

I see your point, fair enough. A few bad movies shouldn't taint an entire franchise. Perhaps I should have said that some of the Bond films are overrated instead.

Nice idea for a topic, ruined by bias fairly quickly. Not everyone is going to like certain types of movies, going in the attack on a large group of movies, e.g the current marvel universe or James bond actually suggests 1 of 2 things, you've watched a few, weren't a fan and are now judging them all,or worse still, you've wasted your time watching them all even though you dont like them which makes you a fucking moron!

I enjoy most of the marvel movies, granted most of them have been over hyped at least to some degree, but what isnt these days?

I'm kind of that disappointed in where this topic has went that im not even going to take a proper part of it

Every single opinion in the world is biased. The topic isn't ruined by people giving their opinions, it's ruined by people attacking others for their opinion, simple as that.

So you're saying I can't judge a movie before I have seen it, and if I have seen it and didn't like it, I'm a fucking moron for seeing it because I didn't like it? Yeah, makes sense.

Calm down he wasn't attacking you

you've missed my point, i was talking about LARGE series of movies, not 1 single movie... but yeah sure, read it how you will! Joey summed it up will and in a much shorter post a few posts back!

i watched the first hunger games, it wasnt for me. im not going to attach the full franchise, i'm just going to chalk it up and say "yeah, this isn't my type of film"

Can't really think of any overrated films, but two VERY underrated films are..

Spike Island and What If.

love those two films to death and they are definitely worth a watch!

What an embarrassing topic. 15 year olds moaning about films they've probably not even seen, and/or too young to even appreciate.

My initial idea for the topic was hopefully a discussion on the films but it became less of a discussion and more of an argument but thankfully aero has managed to resolve the problem and I hope it becomes more viewed and becomes a real discussion

Overrated? The recent dark Knight trilogy. Don't get me wrong, I really liked those films, being a huge Batman fan myself. But I've recently seen Imdb have "The Dark Knight" as the fourth greatest movie ever created.  Heeellz to the no.

Yeah it's great but not 4th best film ever according to Imbd

Agreed! Thank God those guys from Imbd are always there to correct the mistakes of those stupid Imdb guys.

Heath dying did those movies a massive favour. Sadly it dated badlyz but story-wise, batman begins is the best of the 3. People seem to be dazzled by the joker and bane for some reason

Have to agree here. In some respects I think Batman Begins is actually underrated considering how much it gets overlooked in favour of The Dark Knight. But the trilogy is undoubtedly overrated. But Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are still easily my favourite comic book films regardless.

Realy? I'd rate the winter soldier, guardians and probably ant man over them

Guardians and Ant Man are in a different ball game compared to Dark Knight TBF

Wasn't that big a fan of The Winter Soldier, but to be fair I'm bias there. Batman is easily and by far my favourite superhero, and I've never been a fan of Captain America. I think Winter Soldier was a good film, but I was never going to enjoy it as much as I should have due to my bias against Captain America, whereas I probably enjoyed The Dark Knight trilogy (or at least the first two, not a big fan of The Dark Knight Rises) more than I should have due to how much I love Batman. Honestly haven't even seen Guardians or Ant Man yet, so I wouldn't be able to compare them.

Guardians and Ant Man are basically comedies with superhero stuff so you can't really compare the two (or three)

Winter soldier to me is very overrated. It was a giant leap from the first film and, just like the dark Knight, was in and of itself a great movie. But that's it. To me, personally, tdk was a lot better. No arguing about Guardians though, that movie should've taken tdks spot in that Imdb list. Altough it's also undeserving of being the 4th greatest movie of all time, it's still a lot closer to that title than tdk.

I hated Antman though.

Edit: If I had to put it in numbers,

Antman: 5/10, WS: 7/10, Batman: 8/10, Guardians: 9/10 (my opinion, I am nowhere close a movie critic)

Is it fair though to compare a comedy with a dark serious film?

See, I'd go the other way, I'd be more critical of a movie if it was based on my favourite hero, I think thats why I liked winter soldier, captain america is a bit of a shit hero. Lol

Yes and no. I mean you'd definitely review them differently but if you evaluated them fairly you could definitely determine what was the better film overall. But you definitely couldn't criticize a drama for not having as much humor as a comedy or criticize a comedy for not being as serious as a drama or whatever. It just depends on your perspective really, if you can review them fairly without letting bias for a particular genre get in the way, and how you're comparing them.

I can go both ways really. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were good films that I really enjoyed, and at the time they were released they exceeded my expectations so I guess it's easier for me to emphasize the positives, and enjoy them for what they are, even though I am aware those films had their faults. But then I was also exceedingly harsh towards The Dark Knight Rises and the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher Batman films, and I don't even want to watch Batman vs Superman or Suicide Squad because based on what I know about those films I know they're going to piss me off beyond belief (I almost feel like DC are trying to make me hate Batman these days, I can't even read the comics anymore they've got so shit and illogical it's not even funny ;_;). Winter Soldier far exceeded my expectations (although my expectations were I guess unfairly incredibly low to begin with), but I really don't like Captain America so that made me predisposed to dislike the film from the get go, and I didn't enjoy it as much as I should have as a result. To be fair if I watched Winter Soldier again I'd probably enjoy it a lot more, knowing firsthand that it actually is a good film my feelings towards Captain America would be less likely to impair my judgement. If it was a Superhero I was simply indifferent to then it would be a different story entirely, I would just look at the film more objectively without letting bias get in the way of clear judgement.
