the King Lives Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 I pre- ordered the NXT version this morning. I like getting Nakamura, Creed and Jax early, and getting the 50% point boost while in NXT. The autograph is cool and I'm a huge Nakamura fan. So I don't mind spending $25 for the season pass. Although, I wished it was included.yeah that's cool if you don't mind paying the extra. I just think the pass should have been included.that said, I think so many people are upset because they already went and preordered the digital deluxe 3 days ago, and the fact that the dde in 2k15 gave you paige and both hogans, this one doesn't give you the nxt characters (originally the 2 hogans from the Hogan edition were supposed to be exclusive to only the Hogan edition but we got those with the DDE. so I think they do have a valid point.as does this article though I don't really like the guy much but he does make valid points https://forums.2k.com/showthread.php?4284693-Why-you-should-be-worried-by-the-NXT-Edition-DLC This is an article posted over on WWESimuverse, but I wanted to post it here as well and get a dialog going about it. It basically lays out 5 reasons why the way they are handling the dlc in the NXT Edition should be worrisome for any fan of the series. It doesn't matter if you are buying the NXT edition, the Deluxe Edition or the Standard Edition; you are going to get worked one way or another. I am sure some will disagree with some or all of the points, and that is okay, but I'd like to hear more than just a blind defense of the game. Explain why you are ok with how this is panning out and hopefully we can have a calm rational discussion. On the surface, the new WWE2k17 NXT Special Edition looks like a great collectible for fans of the series to add to their gaming library. It comes with a signed Shinsuke Nakamura print, a trading card with piece of the ring mat from NXT Takeover London, and a Finn Balor statue. These are all items anyone into collecting memorabilia would love to have. Underneath the surface though, there is some very ugly business practices going on. This special edition represents the worst of the worst when it comes to down loadable content business ethics. There is an unwritten rule in the gaming industry, you don’t withhold content that would by your own standards be on the disk in order to charge for it again. This double dipping is frowned upon by consumers and by many industry leaders, yet 2K has decided to do just that and even worse. Here are the reasons why this edition is shady ethics at best and a complete screw job at worst. For those purchasing this $99 Special Edition, only the Goldberg Pack, NXT Enhancement Pack, and My Player Kickstarter are included. You still will have to either purchase all additional dlc separately or buy the season pass which if the prices are the same as last year will set you back an additional $25 bucks. That would mean getting all the in game content and the collectibles will set you back close to $125. That isn’t a horrible price for all you are getting, but surely they could have included the season pass in this special edition. While I find this to be nickel and diming consumers, it isn’t as bad as what is happening on the rest of this list. For those purchasing or who have already purchased the Deluxe Edition of the game for $89 or for those of you buying the normal version and the season pass, you will have to pay additional funds to purchase the NXT Enhancement pack. Last year, the NXT Pack was included in the season pass. When a consumer buys a “season pass” to dlc, it is implied that they are getting access to all pertinent downloadable content for the life of the game. To sell a season pass and then piece out other dlc is shady. This series has been called out for doing that in the past.If you fall into the category above, you also won’t get access to the NXT Enhancement Pack when it is available, you will have to wait. This may be the worst offense so far. If you preordered the Digital Deluxe Edition already as many have, not only do you not get all the down loadable content in the game for a whopping $89, but they are going to withhold content from you and release it to you at a later date than they are releasing it to other people. So, unless you pay the $99 for the physical NXT Special Edition and buy the season pass for another $25, there is no way way to get all the content as it becomes available for WWE2k17.Also, if you are one of the millions of consumers of media who prefer to purchase digital media over physical disks, THERE IS NO WAY FOR YOU TO PURCHASE ALL THE CONTENT WHEN IT IS AVAILABLE…EVER. If you prefer digital content over physical disks, you will be stuck waiting who knows how long on content that physical disk players already have. In a sense, 2K Games is punishing you for using digital media over physical media… IN 2017! Usually companies actually LIKE consumers who prefer digital media. It is a lot more cost effective for them as they don’t have to provide packaging or a disk to a consumer who is paying the same price and it is better for the environment, but in a stunning move, 2K is actually making digital consumers (who are saving them money) wait on content that is already developed, tested, approved and available to other consumers. The biggest ethics violation of all though is that 2k is engaging in the worst form of DLC practices. They are withholding content that by their own standards based on things said by their own employees about cutoff periods and the development process, should be on the disk and included in the base price. There is an unwritten contract between consumers and the gaming industry. You don’t double dip in our pockets. You don’t willingly withhold content from a game that was developed as part of the base game to charge us to put it back in. While a case can be made for Shinsuke Nakamura debuting at or near the cutoff point if you really squint your eyes and hold your breath, Nia Jax and Apollo Crews do not even come close to falling into those categories. There is no way to view this as anything other than taking two people off of the roster of the base game to sell them back to us. Having looked at the rosters of the last two years and how complete they were with current superstars, there is no way that a guy like Apollo Crews who was both a main player in NXT and involved in some important storylines and matches on the main roster wasn’t going to be in the base roster. He was never a fringe player. From the moment he entered NXT he was already looked upon as a major superstar and one of Triple H’s favorite guys. The same can be said for Nia Jax. From the moment she debuted in NXT she was a major player in the NXT women’s division. At no time has she ever been a fringe player. If you were going to do an NXT women’s division justice, you were going to include her on the roster. I would even argue that Nakamura debuted in plenty of time to make the late April/Early May cutoff period that both community managers and developers of the series have talked about for years and years. You may be saying to yourself, “We still are getting these guys at a later date, who cares if I have to pay for them”. While on the surface this doesn’t seem like a big deal, it is. This sets a precedent that 2K can withhold any content at any time and charge you double for it. The unwritten rule of DLC is that consumers are paying to develop extra content and not for content already developed. You are paying to develop, not for inclusion. By accepting this and giving 2k Games the okay to do this in the future, you are telling them that you are willing to pay for anything they decide to hold back. Where does it stop? Do you trust 2K to draw the line at what is fair or is that our job as a consumer to do?Once they recognize this as a viable revenue stream with little pushback from consumers, why would they not go even further next year? Will we see a special Shield Edition where you have to purchase Ambrose, Reigns and Rollins separately? What about a Booty O’s version where you will have to shell out extra money for The New Day. The point is that once you cross this line and give them permission by not speaking up, you are giving up control over what is fair and what should be included in the base game. You are telling 2K games that you are willing to pay for content they hold back from the base to game to pay for it again. If you accept this, you cannot fault 2K later for trying to get more and more money out of you for the same content that used to be included in the base game.If it is not okay with you to have to pay for the same content that should and always has been included in the base game and if you don’t want to send the message to 2K that it is okay to piece out the roster that debuted well before the cutoff period for scanning and developing content, what should you do? You should voice your opinion everywhere and anywhere. Don’t just confine it to the 2K forums. That doesn’t do a lot of good. If you follow writers and gaming journalists on twitter and facebook, tell them what is happening here. Contact people like Vince Ingenito at IGN and people at Kotaku, gamespot and anyone else who will listen. Your voice is your biggest weapon. It is time to draw the line and say “we don’t think this is fair” if you feel this way. If you don’t that is also your right. Just remember that when you start having to buy back pieces of the game that were once just assumed to be part of the base price, this is where it started. How can 2k fix this and make it fair for all consumers? The Platinum Fix: There is no way 2K will do this, but at the very least Apollo Crews and Nia Jax should be free to everyone who purchased the game. There is no way you weren’t developing these superstars along side every other on disk superstar. I am going to bet the Crews will have debuted well before some on disk superstars. 2K willingly withheld content to charge consumers a second time for it and this is wrong. Current roster guys who are not fringe or lower card superstars who debut before Wrestlemania should be included in the base roster. It is a simple as that. The Gold Fix: A good compromise fix would be to first include the season pass in the NXT Edition and second include the NXT Enhancement Pack in the Digital Deluxe Edition and release it the day its available. This is what should have been done. The collectibles included in the NXT Edition are more than enough to sell in on its own merits. It doesn’t need withheld content to sell it. No one I know is buying it for early access to three superstars, they are buying it for the physical stuff that comes with it. This solution also doesn’t punish people for buying digital. The Silver Fix: Make the NXT Enhancement Pack part of season pass and release content as it is available. This is a no brainer. You shouldn’t withhold content from people who purchased a DLC season pass. You shouldn’t be withholding content from anyone that met the standards you set forth to be included in the game anyway, but if you are, then at least include it in a season pass that costs a lot of money to begin with. The Bronze Fix: Make the NXT Enhancement Pack purchasable the day it released to digital deluxe consumers. People shouldn’t be punished for buying the most expensive digital version of the game. Many people live in small spaces and don’t want the clutter of physical media. Other people just like the convenience of being able to download the game on any console anywhere they go. Don’t withhold content from these people and try to nickel and dime them. If you must charge for the pack, then don’t make people who have already paid almost $90 for the game wait months for content. Quote

C-Squared Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 If we can stop the joking please! I read that article Caveman shared on the 2k forums and there are great points to really think about. Thanks Jeff for bringing it over. There is so many questions and so much wrong here. I love the WWE and the games to death but even this threw me off so much from wanting to pre-order this game to questioning and wondering if I am gonna get screwed here for more money. As said by Jeff, if you don't mind paying the extra dough with the offers we have now, that's cool and all on you. But I can't help but truly think this is all a bit unfair. I mean if we don't want the NXT edition, the previous gen gets the NXT pack day one while current gen waits longer? That is complete bull to me.A great couple of fixes to get me at least and maybe more a little less worried is adding the season pass onto the NXT edition OR bring the NXT character pack on to the DDE OR make the NXT pack available Day One on current gen too. I wanted to get a physical copy(I still might) but I would like to do what is more convenient and gets me all of what I want out of the game no problem. Quote

How long do us current gen guys have to wait? That concern of yours was also answered 4 posts down on the 1st page, I'll probably edit the front page now that I'm up. Last gen gets it early because they most likely won't have an NXT edition, so this way they can milk more money from current. Quote
