Ticaliano Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 (edited) Does anybody else feel this way? I actually took a little hiatus from the series the last time "fatigue" set in. Im not sure about the rest of you (though I'd love to know), but it looks like it might be time for me to do so once again. Personally speaking, the enjoyment I get from tinkering with, tweaking and modding WWE 2K16 has actually exceeded playing the game. Despite Yukes' and VC's minor improvements and enhancements, the overall package just feels so amazingly stale. Surely this is not a problem unique to the WWE 2K series - all annual releases (Assassin's Creed, I'm looking directly at you) run the risk of creating this effect, with sports games in particular remaining the biggest offenders. The problem is, unlike games such as Assassin's Creed, Battlefield or Call of Duty, our sandbox is much, much smaller in scope, which only tends to compound the problem. Let's be honest - WWE 2K16 felt more like "WWE 2K15: The Game Play & Roster Update DLC Pack."Details regarding WWE 2K17 have been pretty scarce, which may or may not be a good thing. Either way, I'm holding out hope that they do something awesome (if not groundbreaking) to reinvigorate WWE 2K's user base and get us all excited about this year's release. Where are the rest of you at with this series? Edited July 5, 2016 by Ticaliano Quote
D-Driller Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Im pretty much done with it tbh, been playing wrestling games as long as i can remember, and the past few games have just felt like roster updates tbh. 1 Quote
HiPcavallo Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 No, but 2K16 is the first game I've played since WWE 13 (which I didn't play much), and I've mostly just been creating shit so far. I probably won't buy 2K17 unless it has a killer roster and I cave, or they do a lot to improve and/or add to the game (which I doubt will happen). I'll most likely wait until 2K18 though, I generally prefer to get every second game rather than buying them every year. 2 Quote
jbl328 Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 You're not alone, Ticaliano. WWE 12 - WWE 2K14 has just been roster updates and now that 2k have taken over, 2k15 - 2k16 has just been roster updates. 2k17 will be the same. No major changes, no mind-blowing new game modes, no new match types, no fun factor, no replay value, repetitive Universe & MyCareerMode, same o' male vs female restrictions, missing match types, DLC that gets boring after a few weeks and some roster updates. Nothing more. Long gone are the days where wrestling games had competition & variety. Modding is the way to go nowadays. Fuck this stale producer. It will be the same ol' shit all the way though WWE 2k100. Hopefully, by then 2K dies. 1 Quote
tekken57 Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 I honestly spend most of my time modding the game than actually playing it for the past few years. The gameplay feels the same as it was ten years ago with a few minor improvements over time. The game also has some glaring omissions on current gen such as story creator, etc.The last game I really enjoyed from a single player campaign mode was HCTP. I think 2k14 was about the last game which really interested me because of the nostalgia of the 30 years of WM mode. I will still buy 2k17 for modding but my interest in the series gameplay faded a long time ago. 3 Quote
Apost Khan Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I haven't really "played" the game since 2k14. Anymore I just make caws, mess with mods and treat the Universe mode as GM mode and do CPU vs CPU matches while I watch tv. IMO 2K is much better / more fun as a management sim, modding sandbox, than it is as an actual game. 1 Quote
Aero Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Games like AC, COD and battlefield are getting stale too, but yeah, its just the same shit with new faces, most games series are getting this way sadly. The need to churn out an annual game sucks 1 Quote
4 Life Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I literally bought this game just because modding it looked like fun. 2K15 was the first wrestling game I've bought since SvR 2007 and that wore thin pretty damn quickly, so I had no plans to buy 2K16 until I thought that maybe WWE should release a WCW game, and then subsequently looked around the net and found that people were creating many WCW mods for the latest game. 1 Quote
JC Superstar Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I miss the fast paced style of the older games. The game play seems to get slower every year. 1 Quote

I enjoyed them from certain aspects but I would have just held out if I had something better to play but at the time I didn't. wwe12 was just not the game to hold on to lol I miss the fast paced style of the older games. The game play seems to get slower every year.it does not need to be fast paced.. this is a wrestling sim an not an arcade game if you feel you need the faster pace. I recommend you get it for last gen as they haven't changed the speed for 2k16 on there as far as i'm aware. Games like AC, COD and battlefield are getting stale too, but yeah, its just the same shit with new faces, most games series are getting this way sadly. The need to churn out an annual game sucksI kind of blame that (in wwe's case anyway) on WWE. they feel the need to have a wrestling game out every year. if wwe understood the game could be more polished, developed and well defined then maybe they would be reluctant to forcing 2k's or whatever publisher's hands. I honestly spend most of my time modding the game than actually playing it for the past few years. The gameplay feels the same as it was ten years ago with a few minor improvements over time. I will still buy 2k17 for modding but my interest in the series gameplay faded a long time ago.it's funny you mentioned HCTP. I just started playing it again and well. I still play it but I don't think i'm into that game as I was back then an I was 21 when that game came out. and 2k16 is actually the first year that I have actually gone almost an entire year in my wcw and wwf universes respectively. lol from SVR11 - 2k15 I never went constant cause there were always glitches, limitations or locks that prevented me having any kind of freedom. that freedom is still not there but I've been able to make the most of it work You're not alone, Ticaliano. WWE 12 - WWE 2K14 has just been roster updates and now that 2k have taken over, 2k15 - 2k16 has just been roster updates. 2k17 will be the same. It will be the same ol' shit all the way though WWE 2k100. Hopefully, by then 2K dies.I really disagree with that... WWE12 added a lot to the table, Universe mode addition, WWE13 added Special Ref and I Quit Matches, maybe 2k14 didn't add anything and 2k15 was more of a rehabbed game because they started over but 2k16 seemed to be the most solid gameplay wise. I don't know if you are for the fast gameplay or what not but I enjoy the slower paced style, and not having strikes that could be made by superman or the flash definitely helps that sim gameplay. they still have a lot to work on though especially in multiman matches. that's something THQ never touched on or cared to listen to it's community about the 6 man tags takes forever to win, ladder and cage matches the selling is horrible. and the targeting is worse than it was in SVR11 so yeah they have a lot to work on. but i'd rather they work on this stuff, fix or update universe mode, and add story designer back or integrate it with universe. hell if they give us the GM Mode option of having blank match cards for the week and we can add whatever we want or use universe as is. that would probably make it the best mode in the game. so yeah. i'd rather have all that happen vs them adding a cluster **** 8 or 10 man tags lol Quote

And I have never been truly impressed with their games since the days of WWF No Mercy, Shut Your Mouth and Here Comes The Pain. So, don't let anyone discourage you from speaking your truth. Just like people who still believe there is gonna be "a second coming", justifying their religious dogma & tired old views while going along with any & everything their religion produces. Same with these shitty games. Let them be ignorant. We'll move on & let them enjoy their crumbsthen fin go play svr11 or whatever. and no mercy sym and hctp ar completely overrated the only reason i'd suggest you like those games so much is because of the backstage brawls and other stuff that was over the top. we're ignorant? simply cause we want a wrestling sim and have been asking for it since svr11? okay whatever junior I forgot what forum I was on. god bless the 12 year olds. And maybe you should stop playing video games all together since you're so obsessed with "realism" LOL Poor baby you don't control my destiny and you definitely don't speak for everyone they have a game for you... wwe all stars... enjoyNeither do you but if you respond to any of my comments which you did, then you will get a reply whether you agree or disagree. Enjoy your misery & repetitive 2K series.i'm not miserable about anything and 2k has done more with this series in the last 2 years than thq did the last 15 years they were in existenceBULLSHIT. Listen Jeff, I like a couple your youtube videos, you're handsome & I don't have anything against you, personally but this is just something that you & I totally do not agree on Edited July 11, 2016 by jbl328 Quote
the King Lives Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 BULLSHIT. Listen Jeff, I like a couple your youtube videos, you're handsome & I don't have anything against you, personally but this is just something that you & I totally do not agree onlook I appreciate that but think about it. thq didn't even address the 1 count glitch in wwe13. they thought people were making it up. they thought it was a good idea to remove custom skin tones in wwe12, they removed a ton of moves and never really fixed that problem. we can agree to disagree I have no problem with that. I just don't see THQ being better than 2K at this point, granted, I don't like 2k at all for how they butchered one of the most popular modes in the series (universe mode) and removed what could have been used to advance that mode (story designer) all in the name of my career. so I don't like everything about 2k but you also have to understand I enjoy recreating some of the most popular moments of the past because we probably will never get a Monday night wars type story mode. and back then the pacing was a lot slower. so I get that you want it to be fast paced. maybe they could compromise and add an "Arcade mode" to make the gameplay like 2k14 etc while still having a sim option. i'm sure that could make everyone happy Quote

It's only a game so no hard feelings lol I see where you're coming from too. Quote

Apost Khan Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Little squabbles like this are WWE's fault. They need to find a dev to put out a game like All-Stars that is over the top arcade action every few years for the people who don't like the sim style of 2K. Then everyone goes home happy. And I gotta agree with Jai on GTA, I don't see it as being over the top anymore, and that's why Saints Row exists to fill that void. Also Saints Row>GTA. 1 Quote
HiPcavallo Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 (edited) Must say I love how I got a shit ton of quote alerts for a comment that wasn't even mine.Anyway I see both sides of the argument, I loved the arcade style of earlier games, but I also love the wrestling sim style of the current games. Thing is though if the games stuck to the arcade style there would've been even less changes to the core gameplay and the series would likely be even more stagnant than it is now (maybe that means they would've spent more time fixing things rather than focusing on building on them, but lets be honest they probably wouldn't have). The old games are still there, if I want to play an arcade style wrestling game I'll just play Here Comes The Pain, if I want a wrestling sim I'll play 2K16.I think the bigger problem is every time they introduce a new feature they're left unfinished, or glitchy as hell, and do little to nothing to fix them so problems just start piling on game to game. All the while changes in gameplay, or to the core features we all care about are too minimal between releases. The older games were far more polished than the newer ones because they actually felt like finished products, what we get now feels more like a beta version, even after multiple patches. It's actually quite sad when new DLC comes out and you have to worry about how it's likely to break something. That being said I actually would love to see a sort of remake of SYM/HCTP. I would take whatever roster I can get with it but it would be awesome to have the fast paced, over the top style of those games with some of the improvements the series has added, like the upgraded creation suite, the better physics, and moveset options (abilities, skills, middle rope dives, springboards). Hell I'd settle just for having the backstage brawls, and an option to play Royal Rumbles in the style those games had. I really miss those absurdly quick and easy eliminations, made the match so wild, unpredictable, and far more challenging than current Rumbles which are far too easy and slow by comparison (slow in that if you start from the beginning you're likely going to spend a lot of time either removing yourself from the action or stuck on the ground if you want to win).
