4 Life Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 (edited) Hi folks, I've dabbled in some texture modding and made some decent attires, but nothing I'd call complete yet. One problem I'm having is that my normals are sometimes making everything look shiny as hell. I sort of understand it - I know the alpha layer in the channels of the normal file should be so that the darkest parts will be more matte while the whiter parts will shine more - but I must be doing some things wrong. For example, with my Syxx mod, the tights look fine, but the normals of the top are weird; they look fine in the thumbnail, but when I open it with photoshop the whole thing is bright blue even though the alpha channel is still a black and white version of my original image, with the parts that I want matte in the darkest black and so on.Hope someone can help me. Cheers guys I think I've seen @Auday Elyafe and @tekken57 discussing this before? Edited June 21, 2016 by 4LifeBrother Quote
tekken57 Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 There are two things which control the shine: 1. Alpha channel in the normals I.e darker = less shiny, brighter = more shine. 2. Shader parameters. Some shader parameters are set to make an object very shiny like goldust's singlet whilst others are matt. You can use bannockburns tool to change the params. This could be why you pants and top objects appear differently. 1 Quote

I managed to fix it this time because I was using X Pac's original tights and top as a base anyway, so I just took the original normals and edited them and it came out decent Still could be a bit more matte but it's the same material in appearance as it was originally now at least, but I might see if I can tweak the shaders.
