New render keeps crashing?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, hope someone can help me. I've replaced Bobby Heenan's render with Hollywood Hogan's from 2K15 as I've added Heenan to the main roster and then replaced him with Hogan, all working fine. The render though is a bit of a weird one - if I scroll upwards, then I can reach Hogan no problem and his render appears without a hitch. However, if I scroll downwards, the game crashes to desktop every time I reach Big Show.

Any idea what's gone wrong?

I seem to have this as well. Does it crash on Shane's render if you replace Santino Marella's?

I had this when I replaced Emma, all divas worked fine, crashed on male roster, I gave up and reverted back to the stock renders, I would love to know why and what I was doing wrong. Only use other people's render packs now, which is a shame

Seems for everyone like it's crashing at certain points on the selection screen every time then. Like with mine, where Bobby Heenan would normally be on the roster (since I moved him to the main roster) is the place it crashes every time I reach it. So if you mod Shane's then it may crash around Santino for example.

Weird, I never heard of this before but evidently it's quite common.

It could be an offset issue. Could someone tell me Shane's render ID (type B), please? I've looked at Robbie's ID list, but his doesn't contain the ID for Shane.

Same mate I've just got Robbie's update pack and that's it. This is the first time I've tried modding renders and I've checked over and over again and everything was done right, I'm sure. As I said as well if I scroll upwards rather than downwards then I reach Hogan and his render is fine, but maybe where he was Bobby Heenan and I moved him to the main roster it seems to be crashing when I reach the spot where he used to be on the main roster before I renamed him.

Are you guys changing the 0001.dds back to a .pac? Also are you guys compress and injecting the 0001.pac or just straight injection?

the only time I've had render crashes were when I forced injected the 0001 file usually there's a file size difference and it has to remain exactly the same size. I'm in the middle of driving so sorry if I'm not very detailed

Yeah mate renamed the 0001 back to pac and compress & injected back into the PACH. It's just so weird, the render itself works a charm if I avoid Big Show and Bo Dallas I think it is, but it's just when I scroll through that area on the selection screen it crashes and coincidentally that's where Bobby Heenan would have been if I hadn't changed his names in the pofo to Hollywood's. The two 0001s that I used (Heenan's 2K16 render and Hogan's 2K15 render) were also practically identical in size as well.

I've tried all sorts to fix this problem and it just keeps happening with different superstars. There's not been a patch or anything recently that could have caused the problem so why TF is this happening to everyone all of a sudden

I think it happens if you don't import the same file as the original (Heenan over Heenan). I had this issue and figured out it was because I had accidentally replaced and imported Stunning Steve Austin's render file over Ryback's. Since they're different sizes, it screwed up the offsets. I tried fixing via hex, but the only resolution was to reinsert my backup file and start over.

Compare file size of your type a/b/c to the original backup to see if they match. If not, that's a problem.

Before you go replace everything, try going to edit teams and add a superstar and see if any crashes there, too. This tests the type c.

so its size problem

Probably. You likely made a mistake somewhere or are using the wrong files.

Let's assume I have Santino's render, and I replace it with Punk's by Ctrl+A'ing and deleting Santino's render, Ctrl+A'ing, Punk's render and copy it via Ctrl+C, then Ctrl+V'ing it in Santino's render. I save it, inject it (size IS the same), and the game crashes; this is the method I used. What do I do then?

It's weird, cause the file size of Heenan's dds/PAC is 1MB exactly, as is Hogan's. Even so, I use Heenan's and delete his image, replace with Hogan's and save - the file size is still exactly the same. Then, once I've injected it, the file size of the typeb file is larger! So there must be some issue going on with the compression of the PAC file before injecting?

EDIT: Now I'm getting an error on X-Packer that says "Zlib file must be the same size as the original. Cannot compress the file enough.". What else can go wrong

EDIT2: Tried compressing using zlib which worked, but then I injected and the new file size of the ltag_typeb was still .3mb bigger and the game still crashes.

  1. Use a totally fresh file type a/b/c - because if there's already an problem, it won't work regardless
  2. Open the extracted PACH of the character you want to replace in X-Packer
  3. Decompress to your desired location, if it's A or B it will be 1025 kb, C will be 257 kb
  4. Create your render (A and B 1024x1024, C 512x512) and save it as a DDS (A and B as DXT5, C as DXT3). Make sure it is exactly 1025 kb or 257 kb.
  5. Compress and inject via X-Packer in the same PACH you have extracted in step 2. If it "cannot be compressed enough", you are essentially SOL for render on that character.
  6. Inject the modified PACH into the type a/b/c and copy back into game directory

If you did this with a fresh file, it will work. I've injected about 40 renders without problem. Only time it crashed is when it was my own mistake. Like I said before check the size of your type a/b/c to your original backup to see if it's different than the one you're trying to use.

Can you lend us a fresh file then? I don't have a fresh version of type a and b.

Just seems like the compression of the dds/pac file isn't going right for me somehow then and it's the Bobby Heenan render that's causing the problem? This is the first render I've ever installed so the file was totally clean, and I've done everything else right.
