Gargano and Ciampa have been in WWE for almost a year, so they're not exactly new and Ryback's still got a job.

AJ, Nakamura, Anderson & Gallows will probably all be in, as they scan around 'Mania time and the latest of those debuted just two weeks after 'Mania. Styles is pretty much guaranteed, since he came in the Rumble. People like Gargano & Ciampa may not be in, as it seems like they just get the biggest stars from NXT, and those two didn't really do much until just recently. American Alpha and The Revival are sure bets though.

Honestly I doubt Gargano and Ciampa will actually make it into a game until they sign full time deals with the company (assuming they do eventually). They're still essentially just freelancers aren't they?

Gargano and Ciampa have been in WWE for almost a year, so they're not exactly new and Ryback's still got a job.

well i know that. i meant as in New for WWEGames go. idk. i honestly have no idea how they do their rosters anymore. i know the old way was THQ would procure a list, take it to WWE Headquarters, sit down with Vince and whoever was in charge of the PR for WWE At the time and they would either approve or disprove the list, making suggestions.  I know last year 2K suggested both Goldberg and Angle for the Preorder and Vince said no to both. and his answer to the 4HW was that he'd let the matadores be dlc before he let them be dlc.

 

so IDK anymore i assume it just goes towards what group(s) is/are popular at the time of mania the previous year - say the May PPV

yep. well i don't really fault wwe for that cause the games do cover the previous year's mania to the current year. so basically 2k16 was supposed to cover from the night after mania 31 - mania 32 (if i got that right.) whatever 2015's mania - whatever number 2016's mania was lol

 

but yeah. i thought that was silly too and what was even more silly is that we couldn't remove the damn mask, they didn't add in cody as a separate model cause wwe said they didn't want people "knowing their true identity" despite the fact we've known for years. etc etc the list goes on The worst had to be not being able to change mizdow's name back to sandow

Not let go per-say, they just couldn't come to terms on a new contract, and it's gotten kind of messy. According to Meltzer, Ryback and Vince were really far apart on the money offered / wanted and Ryback wanted a bunch of other things that only main event guys get (I'm guessing merch downside guarantees but Davey didn't go into details). Which led to them sending Ryback home 2 months before his contract ends (July-ish), and Ryback has been making funny tweets about seeing Ryborg in the Impact Zone lol.

Oh def. I don't think he could have had a sustained run as the top guy, but when he was really on fire going into that Punk feud, if they had handled him right, they could have had a nice Goldberg style run of a year or two with him as the top guy and then you could have made their next top guy by having him beat a 2 year undefeated Ryback. He ended up where I fear Rusev is headed. Where they are good for big guys, if handled correctly they could be huge stars for the company, but they don't have the in-ring of Cesaro or Owens to overcome all the stop-start booking, so they just end up as forgotten midcarders. ADR is another great example. Hes a top ten talent but dude has been booked into oblivion.

yeah i never liked del rio at first but i think it was because of how his 2 world title reigns happened and like you said del rio has never been booked right. only thing i liked about del rio back then was that he beat the crap out of mysterio lol.  but yeah they didn't book ryback right. hell they didn't even book goldberg right in 2003. i know goldberg didn't really wanna be there but still. and while i was a fan of goldberg i was never a big fan of that long winning streak. But i met the guy in person after a nitro and he was pretty cool. but yeah i don't know maybe wwe just doesn't know how to book big guys anymore. i mean look what they did to kane and the big show.. poor show lol

To be fair I fully understand, and somewhat agree with that reasoning. Yes we may know who they are but their gimmick portrayed them as luchadors, which in turn meant their masks were supposed to be pivotal to their character, and their identity was supposed to be a mystery. Masks in general are a touchy subject really, if they let us remove Los Matadores masks then why not Sin Cara's? We know who he is anyway so it shouldn't hurt, but then you'll have people bitching about not being able to remove Kalisto's (which absolutely should not be allowed to happen) etc.. They definitely should give us more options for editing in game characters but aside from editing or replacing them masks should be off limits (only possible exception being for classic versions of characters who lost their masks, like Kane maybe, although Kane with long hair and no mask would just be wrong).

The Cody excuse made no sense though considering they've actually acknowledged his real identity on TV several times. They should've let us edit, and remove his face paint at the very least. It'd be nice to be able to edit hair, and facial hair as well. Not to mention be able to add logos to their face and body without having to use a glitch to do so.

A two year win streak would've been terrible. Ryback got over beating jobbers in squash matches, the moment he started having longer matches against anyone higher on the card he would've been completely exposed (as it is anyone who'd watched the first season of NXT already knew how limited he was). Not to mention the roster was too hollow, he would've had to start going up against main event level talent and once that happened it would've been impossible to keep him out of title contention and sustain his winning streak. While there were two world titles he could've got away with a WHC reign, but had they put him up for the WWE title in 2013 over Daniel Bryan that in and of itself would've buried him. Not to mention he never would've been able to carry the WWE title as anything other than a transitional champion. They definitely dropped the ball on Ryback, I don't care for the guy personally but he easily could've been a solid mid-upper tier guy which they desperately needed, but his winning streak couldn't have been sustained any longer than mid 2013. The win streak worked for Goldberg because at the time WCW was almost overflowing with top contenders and had a flourishing mid card, so the slow build worked because you had plenty of steps to climb to get to the main event. These days (and especially during 2012-2013) the mid card is largely irrelevant and viewed as a form of purgatory, so once you get on a hot streak competing for a mid card title or going over mid card contenders is viewed as a step down and will grow old fast, which ultimately is more detrimental to the guys push than anything.

It's not just big guys, WWE doesn't know how to book anyone anymore. Even when they get something right they generally fuck it up in the end.
