I have never downloaded someone's caw before and would really appreciate if someone could tell me how to properly download CAWs onto my game.

You wondering how to download caws by community creations in game? 
You just need to buy a subscription to Xbox Live can go to " Xbox Live Community" in the main menu of the game. If you do not have subscription you can not access them.
Or how to install .CAS data? another system to install caws download by pc.

if you have a Xbox live gold account just go to community's creations and type in my gamer tag  yugimoto27
