Auday Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Do you think it's possible to get a good life and a nice job with good payment if you only finished high school? By nice life I mean having nice cars (Not Rolls Royce obviously, just something good), trvavelling from time to time and living a comfortable life?I personally don't think it's possible unless you're a Bill Gates. Most people who drop out/stop at high school and get to make money are probably nerds studying computer science, so in my opinion unless you're really good at computer science or your papa has enough money to pay for you for the rest of your life you're gonna end up working in a shitty job with a pay check that could barely get you the basic needs. What's your opinion on this? Aero Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 "Pay check"There's as many people with degrees living off shit pay cheques these days. I'd argue a degree helps in many jobs, but there's plenty out there where you can get in on the ground floor and work your way up. Plus the world is still full of businesses where people get promotions & positions based on who they know rather than what they know 1 Quote
Sunny Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I came across this not too long ago so I thought I'd just pass this along.Mate, if you're even thinking about dropping out, supa would rip you a new one. A college degree is equivalent today to what a high school degree used to be fifteen years ago. Be smart because you are smart, Don't get influenced by ghetto nincompoops telling you the bullshit that they've been falsely led to believe. They are parodies. Aim to win. Do anything to get there. Do anything to get there.Well tbh I look at some jobs in that list and I wonder how you could ever get to them without a degree? I am not thinking about dropping out at all, I just feel like with my current knowledge+dropping out wouldn't really get me any job that would cover all my needs unless you do like a course over something. Also how is the college degree equivalent to what a high school degree used to be 15 years ago? You telling me having a college degree wouldn't make companies pay you more money? Quote
Sunny Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 It is definitely a bonus on your resume. The most important thing is communication and building a network that's filled with winners. Once you become a winner by association, you are going to aim to want to do better than them. Companies consider your degree to an extent, but you need to branch out and make yourself an irresistible asset that sets you apart. That is all depending on your particular skill-set coupled with your presentability. In the end, it always helps to know someone who is a success so you can land something rather than having to deal with the bullshit head on. This means a little bit of buttering up and taking a few shortcuts, but are you comfortable with making those decisions and doing whatever it takes to get there? It's best having only a few morals because the last thing you want to do is creating a conflict with yourself. 1 Quote
fufu ÷ Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 (edited) It's very easy to make a lot of money and progress quickly if you get into sales and do well. Sales is unique in that you don't need any education, just an ability to interact and have people like you. I wasn't even particularly good at sales and I was making £500 a week pretty comfortably in my first 6 months, then got promoted up to the recruitment side in addition to the selling which gave me even more bonuses. It's not an easy job, but it's a job where money is there and its up to you to take it. My old boss only had a high school education, but he was making around £2000 a week on average, and was only there 2 years before I was. There are opportunities out there for everyone, but not everyone has what it takes to make the most of them. (also, good topic Audrey) Edited February 2, 2016 by fufu ♡ 1 Quote
Cerb Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I would say so. There are tons of ways to make a living online in which you don't really need a degree. I could go on for a while but I say there are two ways to be successful in life, get good grades and a good degree in school for a job you want, or have some sort of skill, learn a trade, start something from scratch and build your way up from there. Way back in the day thats what people did, started their own business in all sorts of different careers. The easiest way is getting a degree though, school systems are mostly bullshit now a days, but its just so easy to get good grades. I get to be a doctor because I can do a headstand and get a good grade in gymnastics? Sounds good to me. Quote
BrotchMrToast Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 If you have a rock-solid plan and/or some convenient acquaintances. If you just drop out hoping for the best, chances are you're not gonna survive a week. Quote

Codes. Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 (edited) Yes it is very possible. One of my former high school teacher's was making 80,000 a year before he decided to follow his dreams and become a teacher. One of my friends makes 50,000 a year+ his company is paying his college tuition. It's all about getting in with the right company and working your way up to the top. Sunny Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 That's all well and good, but remembering to be a leader, learning how to lead, and thinking like a leader should be embedded, if not already ingrained. There are some punks who say, "There are so many asshole guys that don't want you to win or have the chabi to success," and it's true to some extent. To attain it, you have to stop listening to bullshit bakwaas like, "Follow your dream, follow your heart follow this or that, and make something out of yourself." The minute you start to follow anybody, you lose sight on what it means to be a leader and an effective one at that. You want to fail? Go ahead and believe that filmy shit. You'll only go so far with it because you lose the potency of innovation.Study hard, become disciplined, and go into a field which commands respect like medicine, engineering, law, or if you're ambitious, even business. Don't do that "follow your dream" bullshit because it's just a clichéd film line. If you live by that philosophy, you'll only end up working the assembly line or wind up grinding through retail like the majority. Aim for something that establishes your groundwork and earns you respect. Your main incentive should be making the lives of others simple, or scamming them but getting a paycheck out of it. Either way, they should be at your helm as they're your target audience. A good rule of thumb to abide by is not confusing your hobby with your occupation or mixing your side with your main, or your appetizer with your entrée. You've got people aspiring to be "musicians," "artists," "models," and "personalities."I was conversing with a bimbo the other night referring herself as an "Instagram model" and expected me to take her seriously as if it's a credible line of work. You're only going to go so far with that type of nonsense. What's going to happen when you exceed your desirable age after ten or fifteen years? Because that's essentially what you are during that tenure--a glorified whore during your prime. You're going to find yourself at a point where you aren't as lucrative as you once were. That's counterintuitive as you aim to move up, not down. How else will you have a woman that will want to be with you? "Stability" is the word of the day here and establishing yourself by working your way up should be the key. 1 Quote
Cerb Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Most people who become famous are pretty much set for life though. They will be requested everywhere forever so they can always make money even when they can no longer do what got them famous. If anything people should aspire to become as famous as possible if they never want to think about going broke. I think thats a quote I read somewhere. Quote
Aero Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 The world is full of people trying to get famous... Most of them have nothing special so won't. Furthermore there are plenty of famous people who are broke Quote
