Should a creator who doesn't create their own textures get the same acclaim as those who do?

Bat-nipples and Bat-butt too. Whoever designed that suit, must have been on something.

I think that creating a CAW or an Arena should be a 100% Creator effort. What I mean is that one should start and finish their own creations. I have nothing against those who use other people's textures to help with their CAW, but one doesn't improve their CAW-ing skill without putting equal time in for texturing or for creating the Superstar/Diva. I'm not very good in comparison to others out there, but I always rely on myself when it comes to making CAWs.

Since the game is totally dependent on textures now when it comes to CAWs, do you think people who simply use textures made by other people should garner the same amount of acclaim as those who create their own? What reasons do you feel support your view? Is the time and effort spent on the textures by the texture maker more or less important than the person who applies them? Should a creator who does everything himself be regarded more than someone who doesn't?

Hopefully this will provoke a bit of discussion in here. *It's not a slight against anyone, just thought it might be an interesting thing to discuss*

Yes and no, I guess. I think the texture makers are more important than the person who applies them to an extent. Mainly because with how CC is set up, you can just reupload anything that someone else has created. So without them, none of it would exist for people on the level that it is. But at the same time you can have those textures and still not accurately replicate what you're trying to create. There's a lot of creative ways to do things in CAW-CAA and some people are really good at finding ways to make things work, which can be just as important.

As for creators who do everything getting more praise and regard as the ones who don't.... I think it matters but not THAT much, especially if you reached platinum status. Like I said, you can just reupload whatever you want in this game from anyone. If you're at Platinum it doesn't hurt as much because you're not losing out on slots to others. There's no honor system or moral code in the game. I truly respect collaborators and people who go out of their way to credit people if it's something that they got help with etc.. It's not something you actually have to do. I've seen it many times going on CC and seeing stuff I've done on other people's accounts. Or on other sites seeing something you done, poorly replicated and people are going crazy for it lol

The acclaim and recognition is up to the people who download your work. It can be annoying for the ones that do more than others who don't get that, but at the end of the day it is what it is. No one is obligated to share anything so for the people doing good shit out there, salute lol

Great discussion here... I think it's been said since WWE '12 and maybe further back that morphing is important in CAW making. Textures help a great deal, but don't just be dependent on the texture. That goes without saying, but I've still seen a LOT (in general.. I'm not pointing fingers) that do half the effort if not LESS.. Whether it's no morphing and a texture or no morphing at all and a lazy attempt at a texture, especially in the face photos where one side is either all shadow or very shiny or completely different color.

With the PS4 this has been a great learning curve. Luckily I have photoshop and some art skills, but I've never actually made "textures" apart from getting a face photo and or logo and trimming it. Since this game I've taken shots at doing my own hair textures for my CAWs (Eddie Edwards, Bobby Roode), I've made fur textures for The Wolves (something I've never done before).. Making tats (so far, Madison Rayne) and logos that I try to replicate shine/sparkles in them (EC3.. Madison Rayne's outfit). It's a big learning curve and it takes effort.

With this being said, I think the ones that do make their own textures, deserve credit to an extent. A texture doesn't make the CAW what it is on its own. It's just a piece of that puzzle. Sure, folks who get their textures used by others need to be shown some gratituity. Whether a thanks in private message or if the texture had a lot of effort put into making it. Mention it in the post showcasing it. Again, it's not what makes the CAW what it is.. It's just icing on the cake. There are some CAWs out there where the textures could be a bit better or the face photo could be better, and yet everything else about the CAW is great to the point that the texture or face photo is not really an issue. I've seen some great matches in the game that prove this.

Textures and texture makers are important and they do a great job, but so does everyone else. The moveset makers, the face morphing/body morphing, even the choices made for the hair, beard or clothing. It's the CAW as a whole. IMHO.

Oh, man! Nick mentioned Hardy paints. Lol-- the old days. I sort of felt bad about that... was it in 12? I put like 50 face paints out there. We did have a perfect Jeff Hardy face morph that year, though.

I don't have the time to do much these days (I've tweaked several downloads this year and made a couple caws for myself), but I always used to think that the thing that really brought this CAWing community down was people needing "more credit." I don't think it's cool to steal stuff from others, of course, but I think worrying about who gets more or less fame for making characters in the game is sort of silly. Back when I was churning out textures as fast as possible, I wasn't very concerned with getting credit or acclaim or anything. All I ever worried about was the person who asked for something from me getting to use it first. I still see textures I made years ago on CC regularly. I'm glad to see they're still getting use. In fact, someone saved me a bunch of time uploading some of my stuff this year.

*I* think it's way harder to do the morphing than the textures, but I'm also someone who is good with Photoshop and who always did weird overlapping and building with my textures. I managed to get my own face almost perfect in-game this year, and the morphing part took me way, way, way, way longer (hours and hours) to get right. I made the texture of myself in like 20 minutes, then tweaked it a few times to get it to sit how I wanted. I am glad that we're past the days of people from the old, old, old days sticking the letter I on someone's neck and claiming they "invented" neck wrinkles, though. That stuff (the badly blended symbol detailing) really seemed like a pretend skill. People who were good at detailing could do it without anyone seeing the symbols. The people who made a huge mess of a face with letters and squiggles then bragged cracked me up.

I always wondered why people had such power trips over things here (like the super-protected face texture hack this year-- something super easy that any creator could do if people just shared the info, but I'm not going to get into the pissing contest over that. There's no "skill" involved in doing that hack). There were a few people back when I was active that were just SO overbearing about stuff. Protecting their ideas. Mad if people even tried to make the same wrestlers they made. At the same time, a bunch of people were super-cool. I had a lot of fun learning from people, and there were cases where I found people's source material Googling and we were able to talk out confusions when I was declared a "thief." I remember being shocked by how hot someone got over me replicating a texture he made. Threatening me on two different forums. Then I can remember actually taking someone's work I thought was an in-game texture, and as soon as that person talked to me, we were super cool with each other. In the end, we only own the textures we make in as much a we make them. I hand drew the Saturn trunks logo this year in Photoshop because my old one was too pixelated. I don't feel like I now own that symbol or anything. I just traced it and recolored it. Yay me. I'm the champ! :)

I mean it's a game. It's meant to be a fun hobby. And believe me, I miss having the time I used to have to make textures and hang out and chat with people. But I think it'd do this community good-- the whole CAW community, not just this forum-- if people got over trying to be "the best." We can all see who makes the best CAWS, but it's very rare that one person makes the best of every single guy or gal. I never made a single CAW myself that wasn't made better by someone else offering morphing (and early on texture) help. I also never cared to be "the best." I was making stuff I liked.

That's what we should all be doing.
