Is it just me or is surfer sting better than crow sting?

This is bound to be an unpopular view because most think that once sting turned from the golden boy to an vigilante, everyone thought it was awesome and don't get me wrong he still was very cool with his baseball bat and the black attire, very good character evolution, but now it seems that crow sting has overshadowed surfer sting.

Surfer sting was the face of wcw, a really big star, the American hero you could count on. I think of him as a better hulk Hogan mixed with ultimate warrior! His skill set was used more and you got to see more of his awesome mic work. I think that his hair style( the flattop) and his tights were also very colourful. He was part of some very brilliant feuds and matches with some of the biggest names in professional wrestling like ric flair, vader.

Anyone else share this opinion or am I on my own?

Furthermore, to add evidence to my argument I don't think that there are many good images of surfer sting, most of what you get is crow sting.I would really appreciate it if someone has Photoshop and would kindly make the real sting image have the same coloured attire( face paint and tights) as the sting render image from 2k16. Thanks!!

I also encourage anyone to do a "is it just me" style forum

Over original crow Sting, yes. Blonde Sting was the franchise in WCW, and crow Sting didn't become cool before he came to TNA and started adding red and gold in his facepaint, that was sick.

I did like Crow Sting over Surfer. Mostly because I was a big fan of the Crow movie. But... One of my favorite rivalries from when I was growing up watching wrestling was the Surfer vs Great Muta. Loved the Vader feud too.

yeah I agree Dbo2700! The feud with the great muta was one good rivalry! Back then he did go against some greats, by the time crow sting came round he had thought the true legends.

see what you  mean with crow sting though.

Do you have Photoshop?

There was a spelling mistake on muta, it previously said "mutations" when it meant to say " muta".

sorry i disagree with anything sting had to do with TNA. sorry i just have to say that. Crow sting was fine from late 96 - late 98 (when bret killed him with the diving forearm with the bat) when he came back he should have returned with a new gimmick. maybe not with the surfer look but something new. some were saying that when he returned in 99 he was kinda like Surfer sting (with the high octane emotions) but still had the crow look.  I had been saying he needed a new gimmick and hogan needed to disappear around the time of the whole fingerpoke of doom crap. It was cool he changed his colors and stuff in tna but he pretty much was still the same crow sting. and don't get me started on the joker gimmick. that was dumb as hell

that moment when you know something's wrong when someone says crow sting wasn't cool till tna lol

i liked both of those feuds and the flair feud of 89 i think? and of course the earlier sting/luger feud. i even liked the sting/bret hart feud i just felt it was rushed with too much backstage nonsense. same with the vampiro/sting feud. except at that point it was clear that wcw was just trying to copy wwf's gimmick matches and were failing miserably lol

Yes. Him/Vampiro was great. It is crazy because he had rivalries against most of my all time Favorites. I just realized that! Lol. Muta, Vader, Vampiro....

Hell Yea! Almost forgot about that. Reason why I liked Cactus in the first place. He really got over some dope villains.

yeah i only knew about that one because i had the sting behind the facepaint or whatever it was wcw vhs tape lol

Surfer Sting from '89 - '92 had some good feuds with Flair, Muta, and Vader just to name a few. His Crow look in 1997 still looks awesome to this day, not just because the movie The Crow is awesome. But because it was different to everyone in WCW, he was the WCW Version of the Undertaker just without the ministry etc. That entrance at Starrcade 1997 still is chilling.

TNA Sting was good from 2006 to about 2009. But "Joker" Sting was quite fun to watch.

i actually consider crow sting to go from late 96 but i agree with you. i just didn't take with the joker gimmick. it seemed too comical

The best feud he had in his career is definately vs Flair. Anything he did in TNA doesn't even count to me. I always wondered how big the surfer gimmick would have been in WWF

LOL same here yeah the whole tna stuff all that did was annoy me. but yeah i wonder that too. Especially around the early - mid 80s where the "larger than life" gimmicks and stardom was at it's best lol
