Applying Texture (DDS) to Object in 3DSMax AND Exporting in Blender

Hey,

Does anyone know the step by step procedure for applying a texture (ie: head.dds) to an object (ie; object_0) in 3DSMax. I've been able to do it in Blender and it made editing models much easier when I could see what the object looked like with the texture applied to it, but for the life of me I can't seem to get it to work in 3DSMax.

I wanted to try working in 3DSMax as I'm having trouble getting my object to export properly in Blender.

Also, if anyone is familiar with Blender and knows why my object gains vertices, or why it looks like a jumbled mess once imported into X-rey that would also be helpful. I suspect those answers may be somewhere in Prinsto's tutorial, but sifting through an hour plus video trying to find a little tidbit is proving difficult.
