How to remove the siny effect on normal maps

Hi guys,

just testing around with texture files and created my first normal maps. As I am still learning I managed to create the normal map but when imported there is an extreme shiny effect on the texture now.

Searched via various forums but did not find any solution to get rid of the shiny effect. I created a normal map in gimp and paint.net but result remains the same (do not have photoshop).

Does anyone now how to fix this issue?

Thanks in advance

Edit the alpha channel, for no shine you want darker, for more shine you want it lighter.

Sorry if asking stupid questions. So when working with gimp I am klicking on normal map then on the 3d Preview button and here I would change diffuse color and specular color to black?

would you mind to explain the steps shortly either in gimp or paint.net if possible?

I don't ever use gimp when making normals. I use photoshop,as I dont think gimp shows the alpha channel correctly. I use gimp for all other textures.
