I need a new phone

My current one is a crock of shit and the battery actually goes down if you charge it when it has over 40% battery. Considering I use it all the time for work, it seems like something worth not being a cheap bastard with. I haven't really got the time/energy to sit researching for hours, and i'll be damned before I ask someone in a shop for help, so now it falls to you nerds; Which phones should I be looking at?

What is your current phone?

A DG800. Got it for free last year. I was supposed to do a review on it, but that never happened and they never said anything about it.

I'm at this point it would get a low score "piece of shite, not working 8/10"

anyway I've heard only good things about HTC phones

Pick up a nexus 5 on the cheap and install the android M developer preview... Great battery

Since I'm guessing an iPhone is out of the question, you could get the unlocked Verizon version of the LG G2. It's $40 more than the Chinese black market phone you were put at gunpoint for. I know a guy who had it last year with minimum complaints as far as battery life goes. This is the closest to the S5. It also has the same chipset as the Nexus 5, if that helps. It's actually the phone the Nexus 5 was based on but you may be able to find the Nexus 5 to be more affordable.

As long as I can talk, text and Tinder, any phone with a decent battery life is an upgrade right now. Still want to get the best value for money if i'm getting a new contract though. To be fair to my current crock of shit though, for the first 5 months or so it was pretty excellent.

Have you tried a factory reset on your current crock of shit?

Posted

Nope. I'm a bit worried about losing all the texts and everything on it. Also, that thing is raping me since its on Pay as you go, and I go through like £20 a week anyway. So I think a new phone on contract just makes a lot more sense right now.

Anyone have experience of Samsung S5 Mini? Looks pretty inexpensive, although it seems a little older too.

Me mates girlfriend has one of them and she seems happy with it

To be honest Samsung are shite... I got a Nokia Lumia and its very handy to have only problem with this phone I've had it 3week and dropped it once and smashed screen :/ still work but probably gonna cost a bit to replace ;( but other than that its been a great phone.

Nokia use Windows though, right?

Posted

It does indeed is that not good? Lol

I'd rather shit in my hands and clap than use Windows. It's woeful,

Haha fair play to ya.... But it is a good phone :)

Windows mobile is a pretty platform, but the locked development means no apps, shite apps and expensive apps!

A certain app could be rapping your battery more than you realise. Uninstall virtually everything, it'll keep your messages. If its still shite, bite the bullet and full reset! If your phone is still shit, get a new one!

As for the s5 mini! Its generally over priced, but all it is is a striped down, smaller s5, but it should be good for a few years

I did the uninstalling thing. Went through all the battery logs, removed everything even slightly consumptive and still had no joy. I've decided to just get a new one anyway. Probably a high end one. Going to see if they'll give me a TV with it or something as well. If they're going to stick me with a big contract i'm going to take as much as I can in the process.

You're logic is retarded. You're worried about resetting your phone and losing texts even though we're not 14 anymore and realise convo logs are meaningless. Plus you're new phone isn't about to get all those previous texts onto it.

Posted

Its work texts, not personal ones. Names, addresses of customers etc. All the shit I need for working out taxes and keep a record of my days. Also i'm well aware that my new phone won't have them on it, but i'll still have them to hand on the old one for when I eventually need them. I really cba writing out hundreds and hundreds of names and addresses just to reset it and hope that'll it'll solve it. I'd probably end up saving £20-30 a month by getting a new one anyway, so it's a bit of a no brainer.

You should be sticking these down in a spreadsheet then. Also just get an iPhone. There great. Grab a 5C. Cheapest one out and it'll be much cheaper when it comes to the next phones coming out. There good, reliable, have the best apps and you'll look dope as fuck.

Posted

I should, but you know, cba. I'm a procrastinator of the highest calibre.

Also, not sure if sarcasm or... about the 5C

Posted

Oh no, I'm a big advocate for iPhones. I have the 5S and I love it. The Touch ID is really useful to me, but the 5C is just as good but cheaper.

Posted

Hmmm, that 1.3ghz processor and 1gb of RAM seems low to me, and the battery life looks pretty shitty as well. I'm not so convinced about it.

Posted

Tinder, mostly.

I'm a very tight wadded person so I have to be convinced by what i'm buying before I commit, which is probably why i'm good at my job.

Is an iPhone 5C that much different from an iPhone 6? Comparing prices, does an iPhone 5C + an iPad Mini (unlimited texts, calls) for £30 per month seem like good value? Or is £35 per month just for an iPhone 6 (unlimited texts, calls) worth the extra money and no iPad?

I really have no idea what the differences really are with iPhones.
