swipergod Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 With some of the more recent discoveries about being able to add entrances and winning animations as dlcs, I started to wonder about the sounds too. I experimented with some other files like the gm and prtcls files and confirmed that they too can be added as dlc, so it just makes sense that the sounds can too. I read Taker's method for exploring and replacing/adding sounds to the main sound file, but with dlcs, the game actually takes new sounds and adds them. I'm assuming if you provide a dlc sound file with adjusted character slot assignments that you add announcement like ring entrance names, etc... I'm not sure if the way the game "informs" itself that there's a new sound file is via the sound.pac. That file is pretty small, so I wonder if it serves to "notify" only. On a side note, I've been exploring the gm file as well. This is where the game tells the system which sound files to pull for an entrance (not the ring announcer, but pyro and voices). I think somewhere in one of its pach files is a text string that looks for an entry in the game's main sound file. I'm going to compare DDP entrances (2k14 and 2k15) as they have different motions and timing but use the same pyro and sound files to see if I can learn more. I have no doubt that there might be a limitation on sound based on the xex, but without more exploration, I don't know what that limitation is. I don't yet have a firm understanding of this yet, but figured I'd post a topic here in case someone has already started exploring this. I'm currently limited to weekends to do modding stuff myself due to a busy work week. Quote
LordBarker Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 I'm not sure if the way the game "informs" itself that there's a new sound file is via the sound.pac This is indeed the problem sir. You can, of course, reassign and redirect sound anywhere no problem. The issue is how to 'tell' the game which sound.pck to read from. For example Legends DLC characters (Rick Rude etc.) read from the sound.pck included in the Legends DLC not the main sound.pck. You can add in anything you want, but how to tell the game to read these new files seems a bit of mystery. Didn't really add much but would certainly be of interest to be able to add calls for everyone Although making the calls can be quite tricky as I've already found out Quote
