Fozy Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 (edited) Last week we uncovered the origins of the boards and most of the "old school" members today. Unfortunately, as mentioned, all good things do come to an end, which is where today's article begins, at the death of Smacktalks.com and the birth of Smackdown2Hacking.cjb.net, better known as SD2H. Before Smacktalks.com closed (for the first time) Lawzy had opened his own board called Smackdown2Hacking. It had been mainly a PAL (region 2, European, etc.) version of SmackTalks and had a fair share of members. There was some level of competition between SmackTalks and SD2H, but nobody really acknowledged them as competing boards because the owner of SD2H was part of the SmackTalks staff as well. SmackTalks had been slowly declining, one reason because it kept getting "hacked." Slowly but surely, more people were leaving ST or jumping ship to SD2H. At the time, Ersen had been adminning both boards and Slim had decided it was time to move the board over to a new service, iKonBoard. "Slim thought iKonBoard offered more protection despite what everyone was telling him...he eventually learned the hard way that it didn't offer more protection." - Dr. Jitz Of course, it didn't really offer any more protection, but it didn't really offer anything at all. At the time, an ezBoard wasn't as customizable as an iKonBoard (which is similar to the likes of vBulletin, Invision Power Board, etc.) and it still isn't but people for some reason liked ezBoard better than iB. Slim basically thought two things. A. he could make the board better with a new service and B. he could keep whatever members he had with a board the looked significantly better. Both were wrong. The new iB based SmackTalks was an absolute failure. And once they closed the iB and went back to ezBoard, that was the final nail in the coffin. The ezBoard ST went under (what, you were expecting something else to happen?) And whatever members remained went on to SD2H. There was a little scheme towards the deletion of SmackTalks which was plotted by Lawzy and Ersen. Not like it mattered because nobody gave a squat about the board anyway. The only person to lose out was Slim. The power had shifted from Slim and GeoDim to Ersen and Lawzy. This was the decline of the SmackTalks era, and the beginning of the Smackdown2Hacking era. Next week we'll be discussing the best of the best. The era in which most of us who remain belong to, the SD2H era. McLeod Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I feel like we've started off already a bit into the story, could we get the origin of Smacktalks next? Quote
jitz Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 The Smacktalks this is about isn't this Smacktalks. I can't remember if Paul was posting at SD2H and then created his own ezboard and called it Smacktalks (his with a PAL focus unlike the original which was American), or if he made it when Smacktalks was getting fucked around in a weekly basis (which led to Slim moving to ikonboard). SD2H was the bigger PAL focused SmackDown messageboard for quite a long time though, Paul persevered, Ersen and Lawzy lost interest in wrestling and games. They shut down, Paul got a shitload of members overnight. Quote
