BAD NEWS... MATCH TYPES REMOVED

It took until cycle 5 for No Mercy to become legendary. WCW vs the World was not universally accepted as the base game for that generation of consoles. It took lots of tweaking, animation changes and a major shift of the engine from Japanese Sim to American Sim before the franchise took off, which took until cycle 4 (WrestleMania 2K) If you can't live with that, then it may be best to stay away from the series for a few years.

That's different, though. Those games actually were being built from the bottom up. They had nothing like them before it. In this case, everything that everyone's disappointed about not being in--from 80% (even that might be generous) of what used to be the Creation Suite to what even seems to be a large portion of match types--already existed, and, evidently, they were able to retain a whole lot more than they've led us to believe.

While the gameplay has certainly been improved, it's without a doubt, at its core, still the same gameplay we've had for years.

The removal of the majority of entrances doesn't add up either. If they could get that old phone one in, along with any other entrance that wasn't brand new to 2K15, then they could get the others as well.

A version of the Highlight Reel/Instant Replay/free camera or whatever surely exists in the coding--how else did they get the footage for all of those commercials and video packages we've seen from them? Yet somehow, that feature wasn't included for us.

Story Designer--or at the very least, the cutscenes from it--still exist, because they're needed for Universe and even some for MyCareer as well. Even if all they did was give us the ability to select a cutscene and place whoever we wanted in it, it would have surely sufficed.

Granted, I get that they only have so much time (even with the extra month) and resources to put this game together. Common sense will tell you that--but that doesn't change the above from being true. Like I've alluded to before, it pretty much seems that unless it was mandatory to include for their MyCareer mode gimmick, they didn't even bother trying.

It has also been said that match pace (fast, regular, epic) has been removed also.

Tomorrow we will find the asnwers

Now im wondering, we will still can ignite the tables?

On the opposing side of most of what I've been saying, that actually does make sense, as the structure of the match now depends on things like stamina, etc. which is one of the true improvements they've made.

They had about 18months to entirely recode a game for next-gen without knowing how to properly compress the files, something that they've admitted. So while they had a base, it's an improvement on the base and a transition into a simulation style. If they went from A to B in ine rendition it would take too much time and risk alienating massive parts of the audience. Thinking of this as stage "B+" or a building platform. Again that's coming from 2K not me.

As for the master cam that's easily explained and I'll make it simple for you.

When making a video game it's done on things called "computers" and when in pre-testing before converting the files into disk for console testing they trial the game on these "computers". These computers are vastly superior to these consoles and using their editor tools they have the ability to use a free cam to make sure everything looks as artisticly intended. Using this free cam on this "computer" they made the trailers. If they added the free cam on the game that's being shipped it would take more time coding and more disk space.

While it seems like a good idea to rely on things like stamina to pace the match I can't help but think that it won't help things like squash matches. Say, if I was Tamina against Cameron and I wanted to crush her, I'd most likely think that the CPU has a different idea to me, it's been said this year that the CPU seemingly has more control over what happens, rather than you. Hopefully things like stats and abilities play a bigger part this year.

Yeah. And at the end of the match where they show highlights, you can tell its been done with the Replay free camera yet the feature it isn't included in the pause menu. Wtf.

Oh, hey. Look what I just found for you on my "computer."

I'm saying they still had to code some sort of free camera function in order to capture that footage within the game from their "computer." Even that particular footage aside, the game still has replays pop up as you're playing and then once again at the end of the match--so it has the capability to temporarily store it in its memory. But you're absolutely right. Condescending attitudes totally make people care, take what you have to say seriously, and not think of you as a joke at all. No, really. They do. I'm being 100% genuine and not lying one bit. Trust me.

What we should all be realising  - and what I have known for a long, long time, is that Yukes is a terrible developer wholesale. 2K need to get a different company on it, and I can almost guarantee huge improvements and a much quicker pace.

Sorry, but you were clearly struggling with the idea of game devs having access to features that gamers don't and felt the need to dumb it down for you as well as you not being able to understand why a lack of file compression meant the inability to add features. But clearly that's just angered you and caused you to contradict yourself on your stance to people being condescending.

What you think to be a free camera for replays are more likely a varying array of camera angles and most certainly not a temporarily stored free cam.

Who's angry? You came in here with an attitude, and I simply responded with the same. Not quite sure where I "contradicted myself" either, but I'm not going to waste my time on this anyway, though, as you're clearly more interested in attacking me than trying to make an actual point. Like I said, you came in here with a condescending attitude, so don't expect me to take anything you say with much value. Anyway, have fun.

I'd just like to interject by saying that a free cam in gameplay shouldn't be a problem to implement.

I think we all knew they had to go back to the basics eventually and rebuild the game, and people would get mad about it. There's no way around it,in the given development time

Posted

I would agree with you if they had actually rebuilt the game. They've added a few new systems and animations. This isn't rebuilding.

This is definitely true. No matter when or how they did it, people were going to be pissed--not to say people shouldn't be. It would have been nice for them to do this work in the background, so to speak, meanwhile letting us keep what we had--I mean, how much really went into 2K14? Surely, they didn't just start developing 2K15 this year--and then when they had it all polished, finalized and ready to go, they could have implemented it--but who knows how realistic of a possibility that is. Whatever the case is this year, it sucks that we've lost all that we have. The fact that they've kept us in the dark--and seemingly keep doing so, as just when you think the shitstorm of removals is over, now we're finding out about the match types--is what's made it all as frustrating as it's been.

It's a bit of a bummer.  I know they even asked WWE for more time, for a release in January. Had that been granted, maybe less modes needed to be removed. 2K probably knew people wouldn't like it, so they felt hiding it worked. Either way, people would be mad about the game. With the new gameplay and graphics implemented, possibly in 2K16 old modes could return.

Yeah, at the end of the day, what we're getting is what we're getting. Personally, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, I would have liked more transparency from them with it all. If they kept everyone in the loop and was like, 'here's where we're at, this is this and that is that,' then I think a lot of us would be far more accepting of what we're getting--or, more so, what we aren't--than them keeping quiet and leaving it up to us to discover on our own right as the game comes out. Instead of breaking the bad news early and giving us all time to get over it and then focus on what good the game has to offer, they're overshadowing their own efforts since it's only now coming to light. They even did this with the roster for whatever reason. They claimed we'd find out about who was on it once we played it ourselves, and surely enough we knew every last person (sans Regal on the PS4/XBO version) available. Instead of announcing the roster like they usually do months in advance, they got everyone's hopes up and set them up to be disappointed for no reason at all.

As for things returning next year, that would be the absolute best case scenario--meaning also the least likely. Even as someone who tries to stay relatively positive about things--which makes all of this such a hard pill to swallow--I don't see us getting it all back in 2K16. A Divas CAW mode is a must, but now that other things are gone, they've set that bar. If they're not back next year, they've clearly already indicated that they don't find the modes essential and they can go another year without them. From a marketing standpoint, I'd imagine they're surely going to want to try and milk the situation for all that they can as well, and try and promote any returning mode as this new, big thing that we should all feel so blessed to have. That's as far as the ones that we do see come back. Who's even to say that every last mode that was left behind is guaranteed to return at all?

Posted

Just hope I guess. Overall, if the game is solid and fun to play, I'll buy it. If not? No longer buying

Posted

You'll be buying it 100%.

If you care enough to be on this forum or any one like it, then chances are, yeah. That's another reason people are reacting the way they are--because they do care so much, and just want to make sure they're heard and feel like the company making these games cares as well.

Inferno Match. What about THAT? That was a cool match-type. Doesn't seem to be there.

Rest is irelevant, accept for the Handicap Match. But it could an option unter "Match Rules"

Wait there is more.

Tornado Tag is really important to me. MAN THAT SUCKS

No wonder they were so secretive this year. Shit. I understand that sacrifices have to be made and such, but gutting the game of things like this and not informing consumers isn't a good way to earn trust.

Posted

With a new tech, comes new challenges and obstacles.

I understand, though. I understand both sides of the coin and you have to look at it that way.

On 2Ks side, they wanted to make the game the way it deserves to be made. New graphics. New innovative gameplay. New everything. A truly innovating wrestling video game, but to do that, you have to break down the structure of the previous years and start from the bottom again to make it all fit.

On the consumer's side, they've had years upon years of supporting THQ and being patient every year while new features were developed and old ones were improved. However, all that structure has been torn down and in a way we all feel cheated because THQ was really, really going somewhere these past two years with their vision. But their bankrupcty caused it all to fail and here we are with a new developer and a new publisher with a different vision.

It's admittedly a downer to have so many beloved features removed, but we'll get them back in the future as 2K continues to learn the new generation technology. I look forward to the ride that 2K will give us over the next few years of WWE games and have a clear concise open mind.

Enjoy the game folks, because complaining on the internet will do nothing.
