fufu ÷ Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Since we rarely discuss film or TV, other than those crappy comic book money spinners, I thought it might be fun to at least try it. So the question is as the title, Live Action or Animation? Which do you prefer? Now for live action, try to think more towards the ones that aren't super CGI heavy and more the ones that tend to be actual live action. Animation, is more along the full animated path too, computer generated, hand drawn or whatever. I want you to actually pick an answer though, and if you can, give reasons. Quote
Mystiquε Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) I wanted animations to be live action & live actions to be animation simply to see what they'll turn out to be like. I would like a Parks & Recreation animated TV series for example Edited October 10, 2014 by Mystiquε Quote
Aero Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Live action... Throw in CGI etc where need be, but live action all the way Quote
DrJoeyMagnum Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 is this current shows or any show from the past? Quote
BrokenDreams23 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Personally I prefer annimation over live action because with annimation there's more art & more creative settings, not to mention you can have full access to the world in which the annimation occurs, to open up your full vision of how you want the annimation to be, no needing permission to film in certain areas & no restrictions on your creative vision. mrblacksheep Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I prefer Live Action. Animation or CGI is okay in over the top situations. But sometimes it can look really silly. Quote
Aero Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 why...? Animation feels like a cop out, I prefer to see actual people as it feels slightly more real. Real is good Quote
fufu ÷ Posted October 10, 2014 Author Posted October 10, 2014 is this current shows or any show from the past? anything you want. I'm talking medium vs medium. Quote
jitz Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Wow what a can of worms. They both can do things really well, but I suppose animation is more surprising when it pulls off something great because you don't expect it. Take World War 2 films, a serious genre, and where great filmmakers are made. Schindler's List is probably the best known, cemented as a classic. On the animation side you have Grave of Fireflies, an obviously Japanese take, but startling realistic portrayal of the most honourable culture on earth degraded and divided, and ultimately forced into surrender. An honest take on war and how Japan approaches it, to it's own detriment...they haven't won one in awhile. What works against animation isJapan is the only country that takes it seriously. I like Disney as much as the next person, but their simplicity limits their reach. In the late 90's - early 2000 's when studios gambled on more seriout fare like Titan AE, Treasure Planet, and Atlantis, they bombed. Titan AE is great people, go watch it. So live action wins purely on its scope, every country makes films featuring their stories in live action. Animation can tackle any genre live action can, but only Japan chooses to, and that limits it's viewpoint. Not every love story, mech battle, war story, high school class takes place in Tokyo...but to animation it pretty much does. Quote
Big Pete® Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) "Schindler's List ", forgot about that masterpiece on filmaking. Edited October 10, 2014 by Big Pete® Quote
Aero Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Animation, I feel like things look less cheesy when they are animated. Are you still watching movies from the 80s? Quote
Codes. Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 (edited) Animation, I feel like things look less cheesy when they are animated. I think it depends. For example some animated version of Batman look like shit where as others look really good. I used to watch one regularly. This one to be exact. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LTI-NZZQVU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfdeG_-pHUs Edited October 19, 2014 by Codes. Quote
Codes. Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 (edited) @Status It was entertaining and introduced a lot of characters such as one of my favorite's The Red Hood aka Joker's good guy opposite. Edited October 19, 2014 by Codes. Quote
Codes. Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 @Status It was entertaining and introduced a lot of characters such as one of my favorite's The Red Hood aka Joker's good guy opposite. Jason Todd isnt a good guy & Red Hood was far introduced before that was even in the air. In that particular series they went with the joker and he stayed a good guy after falling into acid instead of going insane. Quote
fufu ÷ Posted October 19, 2014 Author Posted October 19, 2014 take your comic book trash to the marvel & dc thread, putas. Quote
jitz Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Uhhh have you watch the far less cheesy Batman Under the Red Hood movie? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2c9MsP3OVs Quote
Fozy Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 (edited) Both can be very good at the same and different things. I watched under the red hood and it was really great, probably the best batman media I've seen. Tonight I watched Her and it was absolutely incredible. I don't think they need differentiated. It's just another genre or style. Edited October 19, 2014 by Fozy Quote
fufu ÷ Posted October 19, 2014 Author Posted October 19, 2014 I watched that Red Hood thing a few years ago and it was pretty good, even for someone who has no interest in comic book stuff. Wouldn't say it was the best Batman thing i'd ever seen though. Good but not spectacular. Quote
