LOS ANGELES – A fire collapsed part of the Colossus roller coaster ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain theme park Monday before firefighters extinguished the blaze.

The park was closed at the time, and no injuries were reported.

Local TV news stations aired helicopter video showing fire burning at a high point on the giant amusement ride. Pieces of the track and wooden structure could be seen falling away as firefighters struggled to reach the fire with the water stream from their hoses.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the fire just after 1:30 p.m., at the amusement park located next to Interstate 5 in Santa Clarita north of Los Angeles.

The fire was extinguished by 2 p.m. There was no immediate word on what caused the blaze.

The wooden coaster ride was opened in 1978 and was closed just last month after 36 years in operation. It was due to be replaced by a new ride called "Twisted Colossus,'' a combined wood and steel structure.

Colossus was the world's tallest and fastest roller coaster when it opened, at 125 feet tall and 62 mph maximum speed.

VALENCIA (CBSLA.com) — A structure fire was reported Monday at the Six Flags Magic Mountain theme park in Valencia, authorities said.

Officials received a call about a reported fire at the park at 26101 Magic Mountain Parkway, according to Los Angeles County Fire officials.

The 1,000-square-foot fire was located on the Colossus ride, LA County Fire Inspector Scott Miller told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO.

“There’s nobody inside [the ride] from our knowledge,” Miller said.

The fire was extinguished within a half-hour, authorities said.

No injuries were reported.

It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the fire.

Colossus was recently closed to make way for the construction of Twisted Colossus, which will combine the iconic wooden structure with 5,000 feet of state-of-the-art track. Twisted Colossus is scheduled to debut in summer 2015.

The original Colossus wooden coaster opened on June 29, 1978 and offered its farewell run on August 17.

Okay?

Okay? What Okay?

The fact I posted this or the fact I said "Deal with it" in regards to posting two articles?

Well I'll explain, I posted this for anybody here that ever visted the park and/or rode the ride & has memories of it/attached to it. I posted "deal with it" cause 1) I'm not in a good mood & 2) because of any snarky asshole here that thought of making a snide comment about it.

Better?

I'm a bit of a roller coaster fan, I've been to Six Flags Magic Mountain twice (quite the feat given it's on the other side of the world). Only yesterday I was reading a construction update on Twisted Colossus at The Coaster Guy and he mentioned the possibility of this happening. He now has an article up about his clairvoyance.
