WWE 2K15 Release Date Could Be Delayed Due To CM Punk

In a surprise swerve, CM Punk may be the cause of a delay for WWE 2K15.

Wrestling industry publication Wrestling Observer statements the WWE has allegedly found offensive enough that they have been considering suing Punk over breach of contract.

While that lawsuit has not yet materialized, one apparent consequence of that was WWE withholding Punk’s royalties forWWE 2K15. If this is true, then it would be the reason Punk’s lawyers sent the 22 page letter.

2K Sports, Yuke’s and Visual Concepts started work on WWE 2K15 before these issues even came up. 2K Sports may have planned for CM Punk to take a major role in the 2K Showcase Mode from the start.

However, there is another factor in this issue, and that is theWWE 2K payouts to wrestlers. Just last April, Mick Foley explained that he would not be renewing his WWE Legends contract over low royalty payments from figures and videogames. He did know about THQ’s dissolution, and how it affected his royalties. Still, he was disappointed enough that he chose to opt out.

Unlike Foley, CM Punk has already been added into the game, so this is a situation 2K Sports and the WWE will have to deal with. The most positive outcome for fans would be for the three parties to settle amicably and immediately, so that it would not delay release.

WWE 2K15 is scheduled for release on October 28 to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Stay tuned to GameRanx for the latest on this situation.

Highly unlikely. This is WWE's problem, not 2Ks. They don't dish out the royalties individually.

Well they did for warrior but if they didn't take rvd out of 11 I doubt they'll delay to take punk out lol. Besides this info first came out via wwegaming and we all know how reputable they can be lol

Not going to happen, he's just asking for a cheque. The only reason i see the game being delayed is because of the logo nothing else as it's been in development since early last year. This talk of WWE and/or Punk wanting a delay because of Punk's inclusion is complete and utter bullshit and stupid rumour.

The fact that they don't want to pay him (reportedly). CM Punk owns the name therefore he should be getting payed for his likeness being used in video games and merchandise.

This is probably going to be another complete waste of effort, because when you give somebody an answer around here, it get's swept under the rug along with everybody else's opinion. however what I'm about to say (i think now probably for the eleventh time) is not an opinion. this is it. straight up, what's happening, hard fact. 

 

CM Punks impending lawsuit will have absolutely jack squat to do with 2K sports, take-two interactive, yukes or even visual concepts, which means it will have zero effect on the video game, it's release date or it's character roster. that's it. read it back, read it three times if you like, take it in.

WWE will happily pay CM Punk his money if push comes to shove, it's no skin off their nose. Obviously, anybody would try to avoid it if they had the means to, but they will also quite happily go to court, because they can. Simple as that. They can! still no skin off their nose either way. They are not delaying their video game. They've already sold well over a million copies through pre-order sales, and that figure is rising as we speak and will continue to.
