Is Activision pondering a Take-Two takeover?

Has Activision turned ts eyes on buying Take-Two? That's the Wall Street scuttlebutt today, fueled by a research note by Benchmark analyst Mike Hickey, subsequently reported by various investment sites.

Hickey reckons Activision wants to get into the movie business, and would benefit greatly from some of Take-Two's franchises, most particularly Grand Theft Auto.

"For Activision, acquiring Take-Two Interactive would be a no-brainer, in our view, circling some of the strongest development talent and owned IP in the world, within a company that has nearly $1 billion in cash and trades at a comparably lower multiple," Hickey said.

Hickey argued that Los Angeles-based Activision, which has long enjoyed a close working relationship with Hollywood, might look like a good bet for Take-Two. He added that any such deal would leave Activision with "arguably the three strongest development studios in the world with Rockstar Games, Bungie and Blizzard."

Hickey said that internal plans for a Grand Theft Auto movie, driven by the Houser brothers who control that franchise, might be aided by Activision's deep pockets.

He also speculated that any such deal might lead to an annualization of Take-Two franchises. Take-Two's stock was up four percent today.

Back in 2008, Electronic Arts made a $2 billion bid to buy Take-Two, which was rejected by the Take-Two board as "undervalued." EA let the bid slide.

I never knew EA tried to buy them, but i just don't want Activision anywhere near WWE Games.  It would be the Acclaim/WWE Attitude games all over again

didn't know where else to put this, mods can move it to the gaming thread if need be.

Don't see it happens, take two have no money trouble with the sales of GTA V alone

Imagine a call of theft auto every year

Please no...

yeah .. i wasn't sure if i should have put it here or in the gaming thread but since 2k does own the wwegames franchise and 2k is a part of take two, i think it deserves to be in here.  Glad you guys (You and Tich) agree with me as far as how bad this could be.  Some friends on another forum seems to think it "wouldn't be that bad" LOL

They can bid all they want. Take Two publishes Rockstar's games which are like an ATM that dispenses million dollar bills. After GTA VI, Take Two can start making bids on Activison.

guess they're new to call of duty then.

Where is that gif of Steve Carell in the office shouting No!?

2K would be stupid to even contemplate this. Activision are practically killing everything they touch recently.

obviously not. One of the, Wildknight (which coincidentally he claims the game is gonna suck just because of the chain grappling system) quoted Call of Duty, saying that people only hate activision because it's activision.. he always seems to be against something yet he seems like he wants this to happen.  It doesn't make sense!

cod, the game, is fun. it's the community that stirs people away. not that this will happen regardless, though.

I would rather Acclaim, Midway, and THQ come up from the depths of hell and create a wrestling game based on the XFL than have Activision near one.

Activision, piss off.

Activision is not such a bad company. They would be dumb enough to buy the license and have less funds for creating a game, where they could have created two games with those funds.

The game will suck potatoes if it is made by Activision. So just fuck off.

yeah i never gave any of those fps games a try cause truth be told, i'm awful at them (hey atleast i'm honest lol)

ABSOLUTELY NOT! i do not want the return of mortal kombat based moves and finishers ala WWF Attitude or War Zone the game.  Those games were terrible

Hey, everyone's bad at fps in the beginning. Some people (like me) try hard to get better, but don't get very far. Others get extremely good.

I have no idea what you're talking about, and I don't think I want to know. But, isn't WWE All Stars kinda like that?

I've never been good at it LOL then again i don't think i gave it much effort.  I've just always been better at 3rd person than 1st.  If these games had an optional 3rd person then i'd be whoopin everyone's ass LOL

as far as Attitude and Warzone was.  for a suplex you had to do like Up Down and Square.  For a finisher, the stunner for instance it was like Up Down Right Right and X LOL all-stars was nowhere near that complicated to where you needed an in-game movelist

You could try the Rainbow Six Vegas games, but those had some wacky controls.

Good god, the moment you turn a WWE game into an arcade style fight game......I can imagine the riots. Back the f*** off Activision, nobody wants to frickin see that.

You should stop pretending you know anything about games other than the WWE series. Activision-Blizzard have made some amazing games. They publish great games, too. Just because you don't like Call of Duty, don't let that give you the idea that they're games are terrible.

The WWE series is already annualised and that is usually the big uh oh moment when activision gets their hands on a lauded game franchise.

If you say so. But I've been around long enough to know that activision running a wwe series would be bad. They mostly know how to do fps/militant and action/adventure games. Never sports/wrestling games

Activision's problem is that they take a good thing and milk it into the ground. Look at Tony Hawk's and Guitar Hero. They killed the Crash Bandicoot series. The Marvel games they have made have been crap with few exceptions like Spiderman 2 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. They got the James Bond Licence and made a decent version of Goldeneye for the Wii and but Blood Stone and Legends are god awful.

Even this year Activision had a good thing with the Transformers Cybertron series and then they ****ed it up with Rise of the Dark Spark because they wanted it to be released alongside the film and include the shitty Michael Bay Transformers universe.
