thejim Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Note: I wrote this a little while ago and thought I would share it here... I hope you enjoy it... I was thinking about this the other day and how until Skynet started messing with the timelines that there was no way that Kyle Reese could be John's father... In the first movie we learn that John becomes the leader of the resistance, and is this great military leader, so I'm thinking that John's real father is someone in the Military, and though his father, John is a natural leader, and that maybe that Sarah Connor met the father of John when she joined the military, but before some time between when they conceived John and were going to get married this unknown father died, hence why John has Sarah's last name... Then Skynet sends the Terminator to hunt and kill Sarah Connor, and John Connor send Kyle Reese to protect Sarah... Hence creating an alternate future where though this change of events that Kyle ends up being John Connor's father... In the second movie, you can tell that Sarah is no military strategist, hence her botched attempt to kill Miles Dyson... Sarah can barley lead herself, no less teach John to be even remotely useful to any kind of resistance... Plus there is John, who wines about having all this pressure of being this "great military leader", because let's it face Kyle Reese was no leader, he was a soldier... John during the 2nd film shows no leadership skills what-so-ever, and is busy teaching his Terminator bodyguard how to be more human, and creating himself a father figure... One would think that Skynet, being a computer with highly advance A.I. it would have a understanding of time travel theories... That changing the past is not going to give you what you want, but more than likely will have an outcome worse than desired hence why the "worse case" scenario is the first one that comes to mind... Then we get to the 3rd film, where John drops completely off the grid, and that Sarah has died of Leukemia... Hence John doesn't bother to do anything about fulfilling is rightful destiny by become the leader the world will need... Oh, sorry, John has no leadership skills, and this John Connor never will.. So John gets hurt in a motorcycle accident, and breaks in to a veterinary hospital that happens to be run by a former classmate of John's by the name of Kate Brewster... Anyways she caches him the act of attempting to steal what he thinks is pain medication, and locks him in a cage... She remembers John, but he barley remembers her... Skynet in its infinite wisdom, because apparently not enough damage has been done to the timeline, sends another prototype Terminator, not to kill John, but his classmates that would be his lieutenants, and Kate because she is his second in command, plus his wife... Since it can't find any trace of John Connor... Plus the resistance sends back another T-800 Terminator to protect Kate, and we learn that this T-800 kills John... So at some point John comes to this conclusion that if Skynet had not sent the T-1000 in the 2nd film, Kate and him would have "hooked-up", John would have met Kate's father who is a Lieutenant General in the USAF, and taught him the skills he would need to be the leader of the resistance... I just don't buy this at all, since in the 2nd movie John has shown zero leadership skills, and like I said his "father" was not a leader... The third one ends with John and Kate getting lured into a fallout shelter, and Skynet has started its war on humanity... We are at the fourth film, and even John has suspected that Skynet has compromised the timeline and he suspects there are paradoxes in his memory... John in this movie is no where near being a leader, but what I would say he is a motivator and trying to motivate the survivors to be soldiers, and fight Skynet, and to join the resistance... John is married to Kate, and she is pregnant... John learns that his "father" Kyle is in trouble and wants to help him, but the upper command won't let him... John who knows he needs Kyle Reese, in order send him back in time to fight the Terminator that Skynet sends to kill his mother... So through a series of events John Connor is captured by Skynet and we see a pretty big paradox, a T-800 which is built way before it should have been... I know I haven't mentioned the Terminator/ Human hybrid aka Marcus Wright, because that too is a paradox I think devised to actually save John when the T-800 almost kills him, hence needing a new heart and it being in the 3rd film that Skynet uses the likeness of T-800, because John sees him as a father figure to kill him... Then when Kate who is a doctor, can only save John by needing a heart, Marcus offers his heart... This is where the paradox coms in, because it has be more than luck that both John and Marcus are the same blood type to give him his heart... At some point in the future both Skynet and John more than likely begin the whole process over again... I did not go into the Sarah Connor Chronicles, because it is an alternate timeline diverging from sometime after Terminator 2, and does not really fit the movie timeline... Hence why no mention of the events of the TV series in the 4th movie... Like I said, really the only thing Skynet did was change who John Connor's father is... In the end Skynet was better off not messing with the timeline to rid themselves of its greatest foe and trying to kill Sarah Connor, because either way John Connor still ended up being a threat to Skynet... Just not in the role of "great military leader"... So I hope you enjoyed, my thoughts about the Terminator films, and if you feel I got something wrong or if you felt I left something important out... Please let me know, since I did this from memory... Quote
FrickinAwesome Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 The future that John ends up in, and ultimately tries to stop earlier on, happens because he sends Kyle back to protect his mother. Which results in them fornicating, causing Sarah to become pregnant with John, leading to the future that is plagued by nuclear war. But, because Skynet kept sending back more Terminators, the timeline was indeed altered. The story was dropped off after the fourth movie, so it's not quite clear how John becomes the leader of the Resistance, then again, the fourth movie focused more around Marcus than it did John. Fozy Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Kyle is clearly John's father. He never really is a leader, he's just experienced which puts him in this roll. He learns from the T-800. John knew Kyle was his father, that's why he sent him. Quote
