supa! Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 So, who here doesn't mind picking up a book every now and then? Between work and the endless distractions available in 2014, I've still managed to very very slowly get through some decent books during lunch breaks etc. Of the top of my head, the latest ones I've read are: Robopocalypse by Daniel H Wilson Don't tell mum I work on the rigs by Paul Carter And most recently, The Martian by Andy Weir ------- What books do you guys have your grubby little hands on at the moment?? The Don Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 I'm horrible with books. I love to read, but I never do. It's near impossible for me to get into fiction, with a few exceptions. For the most part I need to have something grounded in reality, if there was a gun to my head I'd say I mostly read history books... with "history" used loosely. I've read The Resistance Manifesto cover to cover on multiple occasions to the point I keep it on my computer desk for reference when it's needed. The Creature From Jeckyll Island was a good read but longer than I'd ever like to read again. Same with Rise and Fall of The Third Reich. History, conspiracy theory and government stuff is my wheelhouse. I need to rebuy and reread 53 Documents The Government Doesn't Want You To Read by Jesse Ventura again sometime, that was good... especially the JFK chapter. Aside from the "boring' and "you're crazy if you believe that shit" books I love rock & roll (auto)biographies. The Dirt, The Heroin Diaries, Tommyland and Walk This Way are all great reads. My copy of Walk This Way is the same one I read in 5th grade which shows how much I loved that book that I haven't gotten rid of it. The DMX autobiography is an excellent read if you're into his music and I have yet to find a Tupac book I haven't liked. Circling back to my bit about fiction, I have read 1984 three times and plan on rereading it again this year. But that's not a surprise as it dovetails in with the books I mentioned in the first paragraph. Darkly Dreaming Dexter and Dearly Devoted Dexter were both good books, but I also loved the Dexter TV series. I plan on picking up the third book soon once things settle down around here. Quote
Tamer™ Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 I wish I could read more but around this time of the year I'm really occupied unfortunately. Quote
fufu ÷ Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 I used to read on the bus to and from college every day. I read a few Mario Puzo books and a couple Star Wars books too. I love the expanded universe for Star Wars books. I'm a little too hyperactive to sit and read though. So it need to be when I genuinely can't stand up or anything. Quote
