Aero Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 no offence fufu, but you're coming across as ridiculously pretentious, if its not arty farty and over the heads of those who havnt studied movies etc then by default its shit! thats how youre sounding! you know what makes a movie good? none of that shit you studied! what makes it good is the general public, ignorant as they are to all that la-de-da fancy film school shit, who go out, spend their money on it and tell their mates it was good... who then go and spend their money, watch it, and tell their friends etc.like it or not its a consumer based market and as such, your points are fairly invalid. most of us like iron man and rdj, ergo its a good movie and hes a good actor! deal with it and move on. fufu ÷ Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 People who don't get it usually do pull the pretentious card. It's a natural reaction to be outing of their depth. I like a blockbuster as much as the next guy, IF it's a good film, but few superhero movies are good films. Quote
Sunny Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Never have read someone who would have disdain for Robert Downey Jr. Now, I've seen it all. He is an exceptional actor. However, you do bring up a point of superhero movies being a facade and cash cows for studios. That's nostalgia. People are attracted to the golden age, namely THEIR golden age. It is an incentive for buys. The same can be said about these remakes of films that we already have seen, but people will watch anyways because it will suspend them in catharsis and have emotional appeal to their childhood. But, your accepted idea of "Superhero movies are shitty. What makes this one better than the last?" is cynical to say the least. How else are you going to perceive movies be it they be related to superheroes or whatever else with an open mind if you are going to stigmatize them with your own beliefs and say it's shitty beforehand? That's absurd. It's not giving it a fair chance. Quote
fufu ÷ Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 I give them a chance. I go into all films with low expectations, so that they may surpass them and i'll get some enjoyment. It just so happens the recurring theme is that superhero movies more often than not fail to surpass the already low expectations, and I get little enjoyment out of them. Quote
