DP1™ Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 I know that there is a few Star Wars fans here, so I thought of making this to discuss the newest addition to the saga, Episode VII, which is going to be released December of 2015. Feel free to add any thoughts. Quote
delete Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 I don't see the point of rebooting it, they're just exploiting the old films to make more money. Quote

jitz Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 (edited) My only hope is JJ Abrams doesn't do what he did to Star Trek (which worked extremely well, I liked both movies) and make it an action movie. Star Wars needs to be a journey, and that was what was lost in the prequel. Jedis would hop in their space craft, the screen would wipe, and then we'd be in a new location with some exposition, and then wipe, new location. Luke Skywalker struggled through nearly every location he went to, from falling into garbage disposals, to being ambushed in Cloud City. Progression needs to be achieved, not with a wipe, but through trials and tribulations. So more journey, less flying and lightsabers. I actually have a bit of faith that this is actually what's going to happen, even with Abram's spotty track record. And people that say Star Wars is just being milked....well duh it's a franchise that by it's definition is so vague that countless stories can be told in this universe. As long as it has stars and wars, it can be marketed as Star Wars. There's still plenty of excellent, worthwhile stories to be told in this universe, and Marvel's recent success will give Disney confidence that every Star Wars movie doesn't need to be based on Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, there's plenty of other characters that can be used/created and it can all tie into the Star Wars mythos as a greater whole and be much better for it. Aero Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 I have hope for it, they have said somewhere there will be another character/angle aimed at kids in it tho, so I'm hoping they just bring back ewoks as jarjar was a terrible fail. Knowing we where getting that anyways, I'd say strum has hit the nail on the head, make it more like the original 3 and we're on to a winner. Will it be as good as the original? Probably not! will it be as awful as the prequels? Probably not! Will it get slated by a ton of people whether its good or not without giving it a chance? Yes! Quote
fufu ÷ Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 They're supposed to be going back to mostly physical sets rather than CGI backgrounds, which is really good in my opinion. As good as some of the CGI was in the prequel trilogy, it's a lot harder for the actors to act without anything physical there. I also hope it doesn't try and rewrite any of the existing canon - because there's a lot of great stories told after ROTJ. Quote
