Close Ask Threads - Improve Overall Conversation

The forums have become nothing other than cliquey spam threads and it is horrible. Nothing gets brought up to converse about. Have topics that can elicit good, meaningful, thoughtful discussion. The Don has attempted this a few times and it has went well, but then the Ask threads just get piled on with the most mundane and useless shit.

 

Get rid of them, evoke conversations a better way, no one really gives a shit about your post count or how many pages your topic as received, especially if it's not full of spam, repeated nonsense and 1-5 word replies.

Yeah I agree, I still answer questions if someone asks me lol but if my thread got closed then I wouldn't care.

They're not bad in theory, it works well for new members, or to get to know the user more. However, when it just becomes monotonous, it gets to a point where you need to pack it in and move on.

I agree. A good discussion in the General section is what this forum lacks compared to the others I am on. I like talking to people about various subjects and reading others views. The ask threads are fine and dandy for like a week, but it can get pointless quick. Plus there is just too many, so i'm all for moving them to a new section.

Exactly! Its not always the immature topics that spoil conversation, in most cases its the members that spoil it!

Don't get me wrong Nazza, it was a great topic yet it was spoilt by the lack of maturity that was posted in it. Sensitive topics can be hard to discuss.

Don't get so defensive, I don't create many topics because I barely post at all. If I want to bring up a subject, I talk to my friends through text, skype or go out to see them. I also use GiantBomb to talk to people more than I do here. I, however, try to add a lot of detail and opinions with my replies, which is a good step in comparison.

The problem is the ask threads though, it's where most of the current clique of members go to chat. Why make a new thread when there's a place where it's been the norm to talk nonsense for so long?

I don't really come here to have a debate. I come here to have some fun while i'm doing other things. I don't mind the idea of moving them, but closing them all is a little extreme. Doesn't really make any sense to take what some people enjoy away, just because an equal, or possibly fewer number of others don't like them.

Yup, sounds great. Then everyone will just go there like the fucking games forum, and because it's not in plain view in General Chat it'll just be worse and more even more spam related. Keep your dumb threads.

In my opinion, the Games Section should not boost your post count. Same with the possible new section for ask threads.

The Games Section will continue to add to your post count as long as I am the Head Moderator of Smacktalks.org. The reason being is people who actually care about their post count can get their spamming out there instead of other places on the forum and get in trouble for it. Some people just don't understand that....

Why would you want to condone spamming at all, though? It clouds the forum. Even if is in the Game Section. Challenge people to make thought provoking posts. That actually can spark a good debate. That's what Forums are for. So everyone can share their own opinion.
