Is stealing bad?

Recommended Posts

Yesterday i went to the mall. I have seen cards for microsoft/xbox live money (25€) and there was no packing or blister or bag or anything. The only thing to do could have been scratching it to show the code (without paying). I thought about doing it but then i thought it would be bad. So, in general, do you think.that stealing is bad?

Obviously, otherwise many would have been having whatever they cannot afford easily.

I mean is it veeery bad, does it depend what you steal, what's the goal, the cause etc

Posted

It would have been wasted because the code does not activate until it is scanned when you buy it ;)

Stealing is bad mate, let me say, someone I "know" got into stealing chocolate bars from little convenient stores when they were about 11 or 12, and with the help of his friend they could cover up what they were doing and get away with a few pounds worth each time. After a while they started to sell to mates at school and then was asked one day to get some south park keyrings in exchange for money and so they did and they got away with it, after seeing the potential in this they started taking orders, this went on for a good few years, expanding into more and more expensive things. The day it became too much for these two boys was when stealing money bags from a cash register got them both caught and handed to police. The whole experience was good until they got caught, just like everything in moderation, but looking back on it, it should never have happened in the first place and the consequences that followed were a nightmare to be had at the age of only 15 years old....

Think before you steal, and don't do it. Don't even go home thinking about it, because you will end up doing it. And it's not worth it.

Depends what you steal but regardless it's not right. Some things of meaning to people are much worse than something like a lollipop from a candy store is what I'm saying but yes of course stealing is bad and shouldn't be done.

Of course it is but  in the right circumstances then maybe not.

Like stealing money from a dead drug dealer ?

Oh yeah, of course.

And I know, I try not to do it. And with music I NEVER download illegally, I studied music at college and learnt about copyright and all that and there is such a large decrease in revenue in music sales since mp3s have been available, I think it's disgusting. How is an artist gonna make any doh ? Big corporate companies don't matter so much, compilation albums and such but standalone artists are being ripped off left right and center !

You'll Regret It One Day :lol

It is wrong and I been there and done that. I don't judge, but just don't make it a habbit.

When I was like 6 years old I stole a Pokemon card from a classmate. I can't tell you how bad I felt, but you know, shiny Zapdos...

I have a funny stance on pirating really. I mean, they say the industry loses money from it, however they only lose theoretical money. Like, I torrent shit that I wouldn't download if it weren't free. It's not like they're losing out on my money, because i'd have never payed for the thing in the first place. I'm happy to buy things that are actually a priority, and sometimes if i've downloaded something that I thought was really good, i'll go out and buy the real deal.

I think stealing a physical item is different, since that's a physical loss to someone. When it's digital, the line blurs for me.

Wow, I've never thought of it like that.

We all know stealing is wrong, no matter what the circumstances are. It's just some cases stealing will come off more respectable than others, which can sometimes, determine how severe the punishment is.

To me piracy is much different than stealing, I can see why people would disagree but here are my thoughts on it...

[RANT]

With Netflix and Pandora out there I really don't see how piracy of movies or music is even a big deal. I can pay 6 bucks a month (1/4 the price of a SINGLE Blu-Ray) to watch unlimited movies and new stuff is dropping on it less than a month after the Blu-Ray comes out. On Pandora I can hear a variety of any style of music and skip all the the shitty filler songs half the bands put on the CDs now a days. I'm big into metal and a lot of the bands and record labels are uploading full CD's onto YouTube now as well. You are better off supporting the band live, spreading the word, and buying merch.

I think it is ridiculous that after all of these new options for media the price of CD's and Blu-Rays haven't even dropped. It's just greedy idiots that are out of touch with society trying to sell you a disc worth a fraction of a penny for 25 bucks and standing their ground on the price. Also, look at WWE right now. After being idiots by not budging on the ridiculous $60 HD PPV rates for minor PPVs for all these years, now they are giving you 6 PPVs for the same price plus a ton of additional content. While I love that WWE has finally changed their stance, I still think it is ridiculous that even the upcoming Elimination Chamber is still priced at $60.  Anyhow, with all of these new option I rarely if ever even feel the need to pirate anything. [/RANT]

As for my advice to Samy,  I haven't stolen any physical property since I was in 2nd grade when I stole a Martin Straka rookie card off my friends brother because he was a douche. I felt bad about it and was going to give it back but then I met him and he signed it, so that was kind of off the table. Still the punishment for theft is pretty steep so if you are going to steal something don't bother risking it on petty crap like a 10 dollar card, set up a ponzi scheme and try harder ;) . J/k but seriously it really isn't worth it, and since Microsoft is a billion dollar corp they prob wouldn't give a shit, the person you screw is the kid like you that goes in and buys that card and goes home realizing the code has already been used.

Stealing is bad mmkay you shouldn't do it cause it's bad mmkay.

Unless it's piracy everyone does it mmkay.

Downloading you would otherwise not pay for is arguably fine as if anything it might result in you buying a legal copy at a later date.

Downloading something you'd otherwise be willing to pay for is theft, that can't be sugarcoated.

Stealing is bad, be careful with what you steal, because I've thought about stealing a 50 dollar PSN card, but then 1 minute later I've thought "Why the hell would I wanna waste my time stealing a card. Not worth it." Seriously dude, don't steal it, I'm sure that Xbox Store has all demos that you can download for free.
