Is it weird for Americans to say "cheers"?

I'm an American, and I've been using "cheers" amongst my friends at school and what not for about two years now. My friends have always hassled me for using it, and say things like "you're not fucking british, stop saying cheers" haha. I like using the word because it sounds more proper to me rather then just "thanks", plus you can use cheers for expressing good wishes and things like that. Well, whatever haha opinions?

You are aloud to say what the fuck you want.

Cheers :p

Well I'm Australian so cheers is normal for me but i don't really say generic Aussie shit like Mate so you can say what you want who cares if people don't like it be your own man.

if you said it to me to and i'm American and your American it wouldn't sound right to me neither, but I don't judge. You live in a country that preaches the word "free", so that includes the right to freedom of speech which means you could say how you feel, say anything at any time whether it's words like "cheers" or "thanks" (although some people should choose words words wisely, but again it's their choice). People in general whether from America to all across the world (Germany, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, France, Italy ect.) shouldn't have to be restricted in their vocabulary. Although there is always room for improvement in some people's vocabulary, but the point is say whatever you wan't and don't let others opinions stop you from saying it. Be confident in what you're saying, Feel comfortable in what you're saying and last, but not least, just say it!
