datkido Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 So i'm new to this whole jtag/rgh thing (a month or so ago i didn't even know jtags existed!). So if i'm asking a stupid question please bare with me because I know a lot of you guys have been modding since svr (and probably before that!). I have a jtag, and would like to try some character mods (want to start with a triple h mod maybe), I just need to know what tools do I need extract the 'ch' pac files? Also once I've extracted, found & edited the texture, how do I import them back into the pac file so they will work in game? I thought i saw a tutorial on here a few weeks back that explained all this but now i can't seem to find it. also i'm a junior member at 360haven so i can't use brienj's pac archiver, so if there is another way to do character mods that's what I wanted to find out. Xpacker 8.2 is what you need to extract and inject The mods plus photoshop to edit the .dds. Good luck with the archiver proly not gonna work. Quote

datkido Posted May 31, 2013 Author Posted May 31, 2013 (edited) dont worry about the arc files thing... i was reading an old tutorial where you had to do it manually with a hex editor, I have a problem though. I cant get x-packer 8.2 because the files have been taken down, i've managed to get 8.1 which keeps telling me 'invalid pac file selected' Edited May 31, 2013 by datkido Quote
bugsyboy Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 (edited) I think 8.1 is good but its saying 'invalid pac file selected' because the pac is compressed , uncompress it with brienj yukes pac extractor ,or download one of my mod witch are uncompress ,just so you can see if thats the problem Edited May 31, 2013 by bugsyboy Quote
tekken57 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Yup, mediafire removed my hosting for x-packer so I'm going to have to look for another host. The files are compressed, you need to uncompress using xbe first and then open with x-packer. Quote
datkido Posted May 31, 2013 Author Posted May 31, 2013 Thx guys I thought that was the problem because I could open the PAC files from other downloaded mods. Was too tired to carry on last night so I gave up gonna try again now. Tekken you should try Dropbox or google drive. Quote

Mathayus Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 When you get you post account up to 30, you´ll be able to be member and using the Pac Archiver. With the archiver is easy and fast. But X-Packer is very helpfull to do somethings that the archiver can´t. So better go for xbdecompress and uncompress all the pac files so you can be able to open all the files in X-packer too. Oh, and get a Dummy.pac I keep a copy safe. Quote

datkido Posted May 31, 2013 Author Posted May 31, 2013 thanks for all the help guys, i'm nearly there but having 1 last problem! so i'm just experimenting with removing triple h's hair to start with. I edit the alpha channel on the normals file using gimp.... but when i put it back in game he has no hair, but is SUPER shiny! almost silver looking... am I saving in the wrong format or something, does any one else have any experience with gimp? I've been saving as RXGB (DXT5) and i'm selecting use existing mipmaps. I'm about to try saving as BC3 / DXT5 and slect generate mip maps instead to see if that makes a difference. Quote
Miztah Raza Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 He's super shiny because the alpha is too light, darken that, try matching it up with the the in-game in terms of brightness. Also, you save the normal as DXT5 and generate 4 mip maps. Quote

Also, you save the normal as DXT5 and generate 4 mip maps. ok i'll try that now, i don't think gimp can generate mipmaps though, there's no option to select the amount of mipmaps to generate from what i can see. i just tried saving as a different format and the shine's gone, but he still has hair! When i go to the superstar threads section though he has no hair and no shine, he looks just how he should in game. From what i've read about what mipmaps are it seems like thats the problem so i'm gonna try what you said but hexedit the file to change the amount of mipmaps see if that works... Quote
datkido Posted May 31, 2013 Author Posted May 31, 2013 i think i know what i was doing wrong.. jus re opened gimp and noticed each of the mipmaps have their own alpha channel, didn't notice that before so i'm guessing if i edit the hair off the alpha channel on all the mipmaps then everything should be all gd in game... fingers crossed... Quote
datkido Posted May 31, 2013 Author Posted May 31, 2013 did it! in the end what i had to do was edit the alpha of all the mipmaps, then i saved it as BC3 / DXT5 and selected use existing mipmaps and that worked no hex editing needed (takes longer with the extra editing though). thanks for all the help guys... would've taken me a lot longer to figure out on my own.
