Replacing .PACs in the DLC Issue

If you have it, and can use it, I advise rebuilding it with XLAST, or you can change the references to the model in the DLC to be the second attire, this includes INSIDE the actual pac file in the header, as well as the arc files in the DLC, and then add your new model as the first attire on your HD, and add the information to your game arc files. This is the way that I do it, as it's the easiest and less time consuming method of them all.

I wasn't able to come across a copy of XLAST--at least not too easily. From what I was reading, it didn't sound like it'd be something I was able to use anyway. As for that second method, that's something I've seen you mention a few times before and it's something that I'd definitely be interested in trying. If you get the time, I would really appreciate some clarification/elaboration on the method. The last thing I want to do is go screwing up even more things trying to get this to work.

When you say change the references in the .pac header, is this the section you're referring to?

Or is this it?

And what exactly should I be changing with either?

As for the .arcs,

Obviously, the '35 9E' and '40 A5' are references to the respective PACH's file sizes, so I'm not sure what I should be altering.

When you say, "add your new model as the first attire on your HD," you mean just place the updated ch71_dlc02.pac (with the modded textures) inside the normal ch folder with the rest of the in-game ones?

And with the, "add the information to your game arc files," part, you're saying to add the section from the DLC .arcs above to this section on the game's .arcs?

Of course you can. That's how I had to do any modding with arenas before I was fortunate enough to get brienj's Archiver. What do you think programs like X-Packer do when you choose to update the .arcs? It's just changing the value within the file for you. You can manually do it yourself, though.
