Smacktalks Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 What do you think about the decision by George Lucas to sell Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise to Disney? I was a massive fan of the original Star Wars films but couldn't stand the first two prequels. I thought the third film was better, but the first two had already ruined it for me, so I figured that would be the last of the non-animated Star Wars films. This new deal has said that there are another 3 films planned, the first of which will be released in 2015. Seeing as Lucas is only a consultant I've got hopes that this might be the revival of the franchise, but also some concerns that Disney may aim it towards a wide audience and cater for younger viewers in it, i.e. Jar Jar Binks. What do you think? Quote
Fozy Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Think about how the marvel films have came and been awesome, and then think about that same treatment with star wars. All sounds good to me. Also, they've always been peen pretty family friendly: Ewoks, Jar Jar... Quote
Aero Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 i dont get why everyone in general is bitching about this, i think its a smart move by Lucas $$$$$$$$$$ and Star Wars fan may end up being surprised yep ewoks and jar jar binks have already tried to pull in a younger audience so that point is moot as to whether disney try to do it again, if they do you can;t blame them these 3 movies had been planned waaay back when anyway so you cant say disney are milking it same with an argument i saw about disney will try to over-merchandise the shit out of star wars... MORE than Lucas did? impossible and as sal has said, which i'll back up with the quality of Pixar movies, Disney do a good job at making movies, its not like bambi and mickey will have to be in the next saga or anything Lucas fucked up with 1,2 & 3, let disney have a go... i've decided all those claiming this is a travesty are either idiots or trying to seem cool. also i like pirates of the carribean... a disney movie Quote
jitz Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Best thing that could have happened, this is honestly the best case scenario. Star Wars and Indiana Jones are right up Disney's alley, they already had ties to those franchises. Lucasfilms always struggled for funding as an independent, Disney has no such problems. They have the resources, the money, and the creative minds, I'm excited for a Star Wars free of George Lucas' tyrannical grip. Quote
