Smacktalks Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Embedded above you can find a video preview of the new matchtypes in WWE '13, or continue reading for the written transcript. WWE '13 see's the return of both the I Quit & Special Guest Referee matches this year, along with the King of the Ring Tournament. I Quit First up, the I Quit match which we've already seen Attitude Era footage of featuring Mankind and The Rock, is not just restricted to Attitude Era mode and is indeed available in Exhibition mode. The options available for the I Quit match are limited to one on one matches and work by beating your opponent repeatedly until they utter the words "I Quit", which in order to have them say the words you've have to deliver a ton of damage, as even on the Quick match setting I found the matches to still require multiple finishers before my opponent was ready to quit. Making an opponent quit is done in one of 2 ways, the first option is by pressing the pin button when your opponent is on the mat, which then see's the referee ask your opponent if they quit, which starts up the I quit mini-game where your opponent has to stop the cursor in the required area similar to the Royal Rumble elimination mini-game. If they don't manage to stop the cursor in the area you'll see the words "I Quit" become clearer and clearer until they give up and the referee calls for the bell. The second way to make your opponent quit is my applying a breaking point hold, which again starts up the I Quit mini-game and see's the referee hold the microphone to your opponents mouth while you have them locked in the hold. Overall it's a good addition and requires much more work to pull of a win than a regular match with should see it prove popular between friends as they battle to make the other quit. Special Guest Referee Next up we have the Special Guest Referee match which see's players given the opportunity to officiate matches instead of playing them, of which you'll be able to referee 1 on 1, 2 on 2, 3 and 4 way matches. Upon loading up the match you'll notice that your superstar doesn't have a referee attire, but they are instead identified by a referee shirt icon and fairness bar underneath the player. The fairness bar reacts to your actions in the match, so if you play fair and you count pinfalls and check on submissions you'll see your meter fill up, which then give you additional options such as performing your finishing move or performing a screwjob by calling for the bell before someone taps out of a submission. Alternatively if you don't referee the match fairly and you don't count pin falls, check submissions or you decide to get physical by pushing the players around using your referee moveset which replaces your regular moveset, your meter will decrease and you'll be replaced by the standard referee in a cutscene that see's John Laurinaitis come out and eject you from the match. Another option you'll also have at your disposal during the match is the option to DQ a Superstar if they do something to warrant it, such as using a chair. If this situation arises you'll see the option to DQ the Superstar appear on your fairness meter which can then he performed by pressing the finisher button. If that's not enough, you'll also be responsible for how fast you count pin falls which is determined by how quickly you press the action button, so you can press it three times quickly to perform a Mike Tyson-Esq fast count, or you can take your time and perform a slow count, even stopping before you get to 3 as you wait for a kickout. Finally, you can mix genders and have Divas officiate Superstar matches and vice versa, however if you strike a Diva with a Superstar you'll either be immediately replaced as the referee or disqualified from the match if your a participant. Title Matches Aside from the return of the Special Guest Referee and I Quit matches, there's also a new Title Match option, which allows you to choose a title and then customise the participants, so you no longer have to scroll through the roster to see who has the title you want to put on the line. Also with this option you can now setup a match for a vacant Championship. King of the Ring Tournament Finally, the King of the Ring Tournament is back for WWE '13 and see's players given the option to setup a tournament for either Superstars or Divas, of which you can set the tournament size to 4, 8 or 16 participants. The final option in setting up your tournament see's the option to set the type of matches the tournament will involve, so you can choose to select Single, Backstage Brawl, Hell in a Cell, Iron Man, Ladder, Last Man Standing, Cage, Submission, Table, TLC, Extreme Rules or an Arena Brawl match. Now the Arena Brawl match is something that I didn't actually see available in exhibition, so upon selecting that match type I was expecting something along the lines of the empty arena match, but upon loading the match up it appeared to just be a Knockout match similar to the backstage brawl matches, with the only difference being that it takes place at ringside. Upon selecting these options you'll then have the ability to choose the participants manually or save time by having the computer randomly choose Superstars. Depending on which type of matches you choose to have in your tournament you'll notice that every match is set for that type of match, however you can edit individual matches you can mix up the match types instead of playing the same match type for every match. Additionally the tournament takes place in the King of the Ring '98 arena, but you can choose to change the arena on the matchup screen. Finally once you progress through the tournament and claim victory in the final you'll be greeted with a coronation cutscene that see's your Superstar crowned the King of the Ring.
