Smacktalks Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 ...Finally! I'm looking forward to this season, I think we'll be right up there come May battling for the title. I was a bit let down at the lack of signings but Hernandez really impressed me at the World Cup and throughout pre-season, cant wait to see how he fares in the Prem. How do you think your team will do? I was thinking City would be strong contenders but they had a really bad pre-season, Villa look to be in turmoil with O'Neil walking out and Milner on his way, Liverpool look like they might get new owners and Chelsea loosing Ricardo Carvalho will leave a nice gap in their defence! Aero Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 lol i dunno man, united have slowly been looking weaker, the lack of signings may well result in a few matches not going as planned, not convinced they'll win. as far as liverpool is concerned, it all rests with hodgeson. he's convinced cole to leave london and the champions league, kept torres, stevie g looks on form judging by his england performance... we mayb still are missing a bit of quality and have dick all of a subs bench, but heres hoping roy can motovate what he's got and, much like with fulham, do the business. i'll settle for top 4 and united not winning the league this season Quote
Smacktalks Posted August 13, 2010 Author Posted August 13, 2010 I think Fergie hasnt bought due to the likes of Gibson and Cleverly, I think this will be the year they really step up judging by their form in pre-season. We really need to see how they fill in for Scholes and Giggs as this looks to be Scholes' last year and probably Giggs' aswell. Liverpool will be really strong under Hodgeson, just think of all the times you were 1-0 up or down last season and Benitez took off the likes of Torres and Gerrard which then cost you the game. Hodgeson wont make those same mistakes and Joe Cole seemed to fit straight in when he linked up with Gerrard in the Europa league games. The only problem you seem to have is Mascherano wanting to leave. Quote
Aero Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 the masch saga is a curious one, he's looking less likely to leave as we're not getting any solid offers and roy is happy with his temperment and willing to play him so we might get lucky. if we can keep him til january and are heading the right way then who knows. scholes is done, giggs is bound to start declining, so fergie should be looking for additional back up or he'll fall into rafa's problem, a strong 1st team but any injury can then cripple your options. i really think he needs more. Smacktalks Posted August 14, 2010 Author Posted August 14, 2010 I thought Scholes would have retired at the end of last season but fergie talked him round, he can still do a job in some games but we really need to test the replacements this season. Anyway, after the first few games i'm thinking Blackpool to win the Prem! I figured they'd give Wigan a strong test and maybe they could nick a win, but 4-0? :eek Quote
Aero Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 haha i know... dunno how city are gonna perform, did well with 9 men to keep the draw, spurs played well too but couldnt take advantage... not sure what to take from that just yet! Quote
Smacktalks Posted August 14, 2010 Author Posted August 14, 2010 I was really impressed with Spurs, the pace they have is a massive asset. Defoe up front, Bale and Lennon down the wings, it'll prove a right handfull for most defences. City on the other hand looked like there gonna need to take time to work the new players in, if it wasnt for Joe Hart they couldve been embarrised. Some of the saves Hart pulled off were world class. MasterOfTheSwanton Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 It seems the gap in Chelsea's defence wont really matter when they continue to score 6, 7, etc. :2 Hopefully we'll look to show our goal scoring ability tonight. Quote
