eliteX Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXMd1CPECTw&hd=1 Looks good, but it must be around 5-6 hours in total to warrant 2 parts. Quote
Smacktalks Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I'm not suprised theres 2 parts, they'll be milking it for what they can with it being the final book. Quote
jitz Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 If it had of been one movie, it would be 3 hours long, and still be missing large chunks of the story. It would be a pretty shit movie. Two movies gives them room to make them reasonable length for movies not aimed at adults, and not cut so much of the plot out. A lot has been cut from the books in past movies, and that's part of movie making, not everything works on screen. Deathly Hallows has a lot of important plot points to get through, you simply cant cut a lot of the material out. The challenge will be making the first part not seem like a teaser for part 2, and have it stand up as it's own movie. Quote
Aero Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 surely theres argument that the last 2 movies should have been 2 parters too as they missed so much shit out? Quote
jitz Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Great point Aero, no doubt it was discussed aswell. I think the problem they would have faced would be time. These past three movies they've been fighting an uphill battle getting them filmed as quickly as possible before the actors get too old to play the roles. Adding in another two movies worth of filming would add another year or so to the end film date of Deathly Hallows. The Half Blood Prince could have used a two parter, there's so much stuff not in the movie, and a lot of it is character building. Some of it is character building to ancillary characters, but they leads into Deathly Hallows. Personally I'm not a fan of The Order of the Phoenix, so turning that into two parts would have been a snore through two movies instead of one. As it stands not very much happens in the movie, and essentially you can skip it and not miss a thing. Adding a lot of the scenes that were cut wouldn't really add to main plot too much, it'd just stretch out a thin plot longer. Really after Prisoner of Azkaban, the series plot devolves into "Harry will one day have to fight Voldemort". So the three books inbetween have very weak main plot lines, which really show the weakness of J K Rowling as a writer. She had this great big idea that outgrew herself, she failed at making each piece an important piece of the bigger puzzle. Which is ironic, as after Prisoner of Azkaban, the books got really long. Bigger isn't always better. In the case of Deathly Hallows and maybe Half Blood Prince, it is. Quote
