I thought they were lucky to get as close as they did, Serbia had 2 goals disallowed and a penalty turned down, if the goals had been given they'd have gone through instead of Ghana. I'm thinking conspiracy to stop Ghana going out as they look to be the last African team now.

I think we'll play better against the Germans, we usually raise our game against better teams and the rivalry between the 2 should ensure the players are up for it, especially with what Beckenbuer said after England's first game against the US. I would have liked the "easy" path to the final that winning the group would have gotten us, but secretly I wanted to see us play Germany anyway.

Quite happy Italy is gone and I <3 Brazil and obviously Portugal as that's my background and all, and I am VERY happy that we're both moving on to the group of 16 off a 0-0 tie game.

We may not have won the group, but Portugal still has no goals against them AND we left the group the highest scorers. <3

Portugal were way too defensive, they rarely even attacked Spain, they just sat back and defended. Ronaldo seemed to get frustrated early on and from watching him at United for long enough once that happens he tends not to produce and turns to tricks and runs that go nowhere. It was a good game tho, my only gripe was when Spain pass the ball around midfield for ages without going anywhere.

Aside from the game, it was interesting to see Sepp Blatter and FIFA are going to re-assess goal-line technology next month and potentially bring it in to the most important competitions but only for incidents where the ball may have crossed the line, no offsides, etc.
