jitz Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Bah! It is! What a kidder I am. Don't you look silly for clicking on it thinking I wasn't going to talk about Doctor Who, when really that's all this topic is about. Plus as an added bonus for those actually interested in Doctor Who, they would have clicked anyway, just in case of the smallest possibility of Doctor Who talk. The gamble has paid off boys, the gamble has paid off. Much like the gamble on Matt Smith. Aha! See what I did there!? Pretty crafty. This week's episode sits easily in the top 5 episodes since the reboot. Matt Smith is a dream boat. The ranga has a strange ranga attractiveness that is a little unnerving beccause that idea makes me question the universe. Asking "what makes a ranga attractive?" is like asking "Who decided to go up to a cow, pull on a teat and drink the white liquid? Who then took that liquid, heated it at different temperatures and added shit and made yoghurts, cheeses, cream and the like? Still though, I have the urge to see her pale pale heiny. Stephen Moffat, I always had faith in you, and you paid me back in spades and universe questioning rangas. For that I thank you. For those uninterested in Doctor Who or his flashy new opening sequence looking all dark and ominous, lightning and all (it's all very dark and brooding like a fifteen year old emo with hair like Edward Scissorhands); feel free to talk about what crazies decided drinking animal by-products was a good idea. Smacktalks Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 So I go into this topic, not expecting any Doctor Who-ness at all, whilst watching Sky Sports and then BAM! Not only has Chris fooled me with his topic title, but my Dad's also just turned over the Sky in the other room and started playing Doctor Who on iPlayer! Anyway, the opening sequence... Can't say I liked it, not because of the dark and gloomy forecast, but more because it just wasn't flashy enough for me. As for the the rest, I was happy with Matt Smith, he looks to be a realy good choice. I thought he might try to act like Tennant and over do it, but he did really well. Did Like: The Doctor Amy Pond Didn't Like: The food tasting The boyfriend Undecided: The new look tardis Quote
Big Bizang Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 All the boyfriends from Earth are useless morons who level up in badass just in time for a return to modern day story. Looks like it will happen again, getting a little old. Show was frigging awesome. The bit at the end with the images of all the previous doctors and Matt walking through it sent shivers up my spine. Best opening episode since the reboot. I hope somewhere Russel T Davies is sulking at how great it was without his shit fucking it all up. The only downside is I'm now wondering how good previous episodes could have been had he not been involved at all. I don't like the updated theme tune, the last one was awesome. I want to do sick, horrible things to Amy Pond. Quote
Aero Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 lmao, just watched it, very good episode, the start, with the food tasting felt more like it should have been on the sarah jane adventures, i.e. aimed at kids, but then it picked up and he stopped acting goofy, very good. the intro was a tad shitter but i'm sure i'll get used to it. as for matts acting (or possibly due to the script)... still felt a bit david tennant-ish but i'm hoping that gets shaked off with him being a bit different now he's complete, got his newer sonic and the new tardis. a final note is that they've set up an on going theme again from the get go, im hoping this is more like the bad wolf story rather than the shittyness of any of the other overall stories (tho i did enjoy the face of boe ending in season 2) Quote
jitz Posted April 6, 2010 Author Posted April 6, 2010 Yeah I imagine the writing will shake off a lot of the David Tennant vibe when Matt starts settling into the character and the writers can write the episodes specifically for Matt. When these episodes were written, they didn't know what Matt was bringing to the table, so they just wrote the stories for any Doctor really. I imagine he'll be around for quite a few seasons, so we'll hopefully see Matt develop his own niche just like Tennant did (who lets not forget also started out a little "everyman's Doctor"). I think modern day story telling in series like this needs an overarching story to form a complete "season". I can't think of one show on that doesn't have plot lines that continue from one episode to another. It keeps people coming back every week with a "I can't miss an episode" feeling. The Bad Wolf one was definitely the best, the bee one wasn't too bad either though, but that was more off hand comments. It'll be good to see where this ends up, because I reckon they dropped more hints in the episode than was immediately apparent. Like at the end in the TARDIS with the static coming from the sound wave thing, clearly framed in the shot with the Doctor and ominous music playing. To which he turns it off and gives it a strange look. Nice stuff. Quote
Aero Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 noticed that... i also noticed the brand of the laptop, MYTH (the Y looking like a trident or devils pitch fork) can't help but feel suspicious due to the Y on it... tho maybs im wrong. ah well, all in all 2 questions that needed answering where delt with fantasticly - will matt be anywhere near able to replace tennant? yes! he'll not be much worse and could possibly be better did davis ruin the show beyond repair with that shite he output to us to kill off tennant?... thankfully not! the only remaining question is, can moffat keep it up? jitz Posted April 8, 2010 Author Posted April 8, 2010 I picked up on the "LOOK AT ME! I'M IMPORTANT!" MYTH logo on the laptop too. Quote
