gambit Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 it can be any genre, at any point of the decade. as long as it was running original episodes after 1/1/00. (for example a show was created in 98 but ran until 03, that would count.) my pick hands down nothing comes close is... DEXTER! Quote
Aero Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 I still love Heroes but it let itself down with the later series.... lost, family guy, american dad, doctor who.... agh, for nostalgia reasons, the return of doctor who... thi davis is ruining it of late, will be glad to see the back of him Quote
jitz Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 Ahh it's been a great decade for TV. The cancellation and revival of Family Guy stands out, especially because the series only improved with time, well until recently where the quality has declined. Lost, besides the horrid second season, has been great. Scrubs has always been good, but after nine seasons looks to be at it's end. Doctor Who has ranged from unwatchable to incredibly awesome depending on the writer of the episode. Then there's also the shows that were taken well before their time in Firefly and Carnivale, both shows just being too expensive to make for their own good. Carnivale definitely would have been a real contender if given a few more seasons. Im going with Lost, simply because it was headed for a trainwreck, it looked doomed for cancellation. ABC has stuck by it though, and the showrunners got it back on track in season 3 with a slow drip of answers and more questions , and hit ball out of the park in the fourth and fifth seasons that rank up there with the greatest story based TV of all time. For a show that attracted millions of people around the world with it's idea of a group of plane passengers stranded on a island (an idea that would have only lasted a season or two), it then proceeded to give the fuck you to half it's audience and delve into the supernatural, and in more recent times, time travel. If you're ok with not seeing your favourite character in a major role each week, or even at all, or sometimes killed off. If you're ok with supernatural elements. And if you're ok with time travel. And if you're ok with plot lines dangling for over half a decade unresolved, knowing that one day you might get an answer. Then Lost has it all for you, and it'll be all over with and resolved come about June 2010. Im trying to think of another serialised TV show that has run on the same story for six seasons. I can't think of any. Before people jump in and start claiming things like X-Files, X-Files was episodic, not a serial. It had a the Mulder's sister plot that spanned the seasons, but it was a sub plot, it relied on episodic stories for the episodes. Quote
takersfan Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Phil southpark's First episode aired way before this decade Bro. And i cant really think of one show. Quote
phil Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 @ takersfan: at any point of the decade. as long as it was running original episodes after 1/1/00. (for example a show was created in 98 but ran until 03, that would count.) Quote
Fozy Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 South Park the best show of the decade? Well, that sums you up. Quote
Smacktalks Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Lost, followed by the return of Doctor Who. Like Chris said, the last decade has been great for TV. Quote
takersfan Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 My bad Phil. Im slowly becoming more retarded. Quote
phil Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Nah, it's cool takersfan. On a side note, I wanna throw in Metalocalypse along with South Park and Venture Bros. as my picks. Quote
Smacktalks Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I'd probably throw Prison Break in there as an option, as the first season was one of the best TV Season of a show i've seen. Sadly Season 2 was good but not as good imo and the following season just seemed as tho the network had made them drag everything on as they didn't want to loose the viewership. Quote
CS Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 The Chappelle Show for comedy, first two season anyways. For drama gotta go with Mad Men, best written show and incredible acting. Plus, John Hamm is the fucking man. Throw sopranos in there too. Quote
Thom Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 The Office, Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm. It was a great decade for comedy. Quote
