jitz Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Ok, tried my hand at the story designer. I've put together a feud that is probably one of the most wanted fantasy feuds in recent times. It starts a little rough, but by the second week I've worked out the different options available to you in the designer. I couldn't be bothered going back to improve week 1. It's just part 1 of 3, and takes you up to the end of the Royal Rumble, but has a nice ending. It's called "Undertaker vs ... 1/3" Be sure to review it, as I reckon it's the best story up on XBox Live. Part 2 will come probably next weekend. Quote
Smacktalks Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Nice one Chris, I should be getting it today so i'll check it out. How's the search work for finding them? Is searchng for your Gamertag the easiest way? Quote
ALL STAR Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 (edited) Cool ill be downloading it later. Downloaded it tis an awesome storyline you have going really impressed with the scenes. Think im going to have a go myself at making one tonight. Edited October 24, 2009 by ALL STAR Quote
jitz Posted October 24, 2009 Author Posted October 24, 2009 I spent hours working on those scenes. I reckon all up the five shows took me five hours to make. It's just all constant tweaking, and getting the text to display right is a pain. When it all comes to together though, you can make a good scene. I really like how the GM office scene with the Undertaker turned out. The text goes perfectly with the animations, and the animations suit the story. Also the scenes after the Royal Rumble match are probably the best on XBox Live. There's still plenty of room for improvement in the tools though, a classic THQ trick. You can't change the lighting, you can't play two sounds like crowd cheering a song at the same time, you can't control the outcome of a match (for example, you can do a run in, but you can't make that run in force a DQ to end the match), and there could be more animations. ALL STAR Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 The Royal Rumble match is quite hard did it first time but got lucky at some spots. Quote
jitz Posted October 25, 2009 Author Posted October 25, 2009 Yeah I just had a guess at what number to put you in, I suppose it's meant to be hard, but not too hard. I'm probably a few entry numbers of, or maybe I could have lowered the difficulty a bit... Quote
xIFearlessIxx Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 oh yea forgot to ask. Are the controls still the same? Quote
Twist of Fate Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 for the rumble? somewhat...now there are minigames to get an elimination. Quote
jitz Posted October 26, 2009 Author Posted October 26, 2009 The base controls have only changed in the removal of the left reversal button, which is replaced by manual targeting that doesn't work anywhere near as well as it should. Rumbles have been changed to put a greater emphasis on grapples, reversals, and taunts. You need to hit grapples to get a finisher - otherwise the momentum gauge stops at full and won't give you a finisher, and you need taunts to get the gauge near full. Finishers are instant eliminators. You need to hit reversals to stop opponents working up finishers, and to reverse finishers when shit hits the fan. So it takes a change of strategy this year, because in the past you could spam strikes and score quick eliminations. This year, you'll take too much damage in the long run, you need to get finishers. This is probably why Paul and All Star struggled with the Rumble match; I've played it and it's pretty easy. Ignore strikes (except running strikes, they're useful to change your target, runs are easily reversed by the CPU though so only use them for this reason), keep your finger on the reversal button, taunt whenever possible, and hit the grapples. With a near full momentum bar, two quick grapples and a strong grapple usually nets you a finisher. Ofcourse, eliminate the newest wrestler in the match, he's the least damaged and you're going to instantly eliminate him. You can eliminate the guys that have been in the match a long time with the mini games - also scoring you a momentum boost, hit some grapples and score another elimination. The main one is succesful reversals, you will find yourself reversing too early most of the time which will disable reversing the next move. Remember stikes are reversed just before they connect (the end of the animation), grapples are reversed at the start of the animation. Watch for the icon. Don't irish whip because the CPU loves to reverse this putting you in a corner, and corners are hard to reverse because the CPU loves to flip you around, which can't be reversed. You hit the reverse button at the animation thinking it's a grapple, but they're just turning you over, then they will do it again so you're back to where you were, then they will attack. It's an AI bug, as it's extremely common. Avoid this, by not irish whipping in the first place. With those tips, Royal Rumbles are easy. EDIT - Well I lied a little bit, strikes from a strong grapple position are gold. They are rarely reversed, and if they are you have an opportunity to reverse the reversal and score a grapple from it (rarely reversed), so stay on your toes. If the CPU is reversing all of your grapples and your momentum is taking a dive, get into a strong grapple hold and strike from there. To get your opponent in a position to eliminate them, don't be tempted to irish whip them to the corner, or the ropes. Get them in the strong grapple, drag them to a position near the ropes or corner with their back to it, and strike. They will fall back into the position you need them. Quote
