jitz Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 District 9 is the best movie I had seen since...The Dark Knight. It is simply one of the best movies ever, no word of a lie. At the 15 minute mark, I was scared. I was scared I had overhyped it to the girlfriend, and that I would be copping shit for talking up this heavy handed alien documentary. From that moment on though, the movie went out of it's way to put me back into my place and told me to sit down, shut up, and trust it's every decision. It's all the more better for it. The CGI is the best I've ever seen. The CGI characters are as close to flawless as has ever been seen. Pixar claims to be able to breathe life into CGI characters, they talk shit, Wall E looks like a hand puppet compared to these aliens. I am glad Halo is a dull, lifeless franchise and that the arse fell out of that movie before it got off the ground. It's due to that happening that District 9 got made. Halo would have been shit, there's no denying that. It's circumstances like this that make me second guess my religious stance and think maybe there is a god that spared me from one atrocity, and delivered a miracle. It features one of the best endings ever. I liked it a lot. EDIT - Apparently the guy who plays the main character has never acted before apart from the short film District 9 is based on. Fuck, he acts better than 99% of Hollywood actors. Quote
Smacktalks Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I'm looking forward to seeing it, I watched the review on TRS last week and it got a really good review. The fact the Halo movie got canned and this replaced it looks to have been a blessing. Quote
CS Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 The movie was made on only a 30 million budget I believe, doggy style pic was just too good lmao. Quote
Fozy Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Yeah, I agree. One of the best movies I have ever seen. Quote
The Don Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 Fuck. My buddy called the other day but I was already half in to a bottle of whiskey and didn't want to see a movie half drunk so I declined... Jitz, you suggest waiting until it's out on DVD or seeing it now? Quote
Aero Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 the stench from my arse today makes my eyes water Quote
Spectre Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 District 9 is Awesomeness. District 10 Anyone? Quote
jitz Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 Sorry for the delay in replying to my own topic, it's just strange to see replies in one of my topics and I just assumed it was on page 3 by now so I never checked the Media forum. Jitz, you suggest waiting until it's out on DVD or seeing it now This is the number one asked question I have received about the movie, and I've told everyone - this movie will not be the same on DVD. It has big screen impact. You need to see it filling every inch of your pupils. I'll buy the Blu Ray for sure, but it definitely deserves your money at the box office. Quote
Jonny Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 (edited) Brilliant movie. The humans are complete wankers in it though. The mech is certainly the coolest thing in the movie, it has a fucking gravity gun! But I did learn something from it, don't go to Africa. Bitches are crazy! Chances of a District 9 video game seem likely. Edited September 13, 2009 by Jonny Quote
Fozy Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 The mech is not the coolest thing in the movie. What a shit way to big up the movie. People have been saying that they think there will be a District 10. If there is, then it will ruin the impact of this film, tenfold. Chances of video game is unlikely. You're basing this on the mech I presume? That was used in a whole 5 minute segment, the whole time it was being destroyed. You are pretty useless. I think I may add you to my ignore, along with phil. Quote
Jonny Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Since when did I even insinuate that I was basing the likelihood of a video game on the mech? Fuck up. Quote
Fozy Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 What are you basing it on then? Go on, tell me how it would translate to a good game. Quote
Jonny Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Again, I didn't say it would translate into a good game. If you'd have half the sense to realise what happens with good movies now days, you would know that the majority of good action movies get turned into shitty video games. End of. Quote
phil Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Gonna check the film out if I get the chance at theatres, but if not, I'll certainly give it a view on DVD. I think I may add you to my ignore, along with phil. FINALLY. Quote
Aero Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 you know, if he's actually ignoring you... HE WONT BE ABLE TO SEE THAT! Quote
Fozy Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Aero, yeah. Phil, you've been ignored for a long time now... Haven't you noticed? Quote
Nemo Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Documentaries shouldn't require more suspended disbelief than a normal film. That said, it was pretty good. I enjoyed it. Quote
