Smacktalks Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Seeing as my power supply died, i've just bought a new PC... lol It seems a bit drastic, but it was a bargain imo. Dell 4GB RAM 500GB HDD 2,8Ghz Dual Core Dell 20" Widescreen Monitor Dell Keyboard & Mouse ... Quote
ALL STAR Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Thats a pretty good deal, i picked up a dell laptop a couple of months ago really like the value for money. Quote
Jonny Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 You're more or less getting what you pay for. Memory is pretty cheap now and a 2,8Ghz processor is almost below average by today's standards. Still a nice buy mate. Quote
Fozy Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 200 quid for that is definitely cheap, shut up jonny. Quote
Smacktalks Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 My mates selling it, he's just got a laptop and needs the space clearing to make room for a baby, so he offered me it for Quote
jitz Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I have a 3ghz Dual Core with 2Gb of ram and it runs everything sweet. So a 2.8 with 4 would be very much up to the task. I'm still wary of these newer quad cores and such, i've seen ones that are supposed to be faster than my comp that run like an old 486. The program has to be optimised for 4 CPU's, and most things aren't. Sometimes simpler is better. Good pick up Paul. Quote
Aero Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 aye jitz, im runnin a dell with 3ghz dual core & 2 gig, with vista and its runnig great. tempted to up the memory every so often, but i dont need to really cause i cant see it making anything go much better. need a good sized external hdd tho cos this things only got 500gb hdd and its fullish Quote
jitz Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Yeah Im constantly thinking of upping the RAM it'd provide a good performance boost for the best value for money. I'm running Windows 7 64bit, 2Gb of RAM in the minimum requirement. Quote
Aero Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 ah well im stickin with my vista as its legal which is a novelty for me and, against what every1 has said all along i'm finding it a pleasure to use, i'd imagine 7 is in many ways better, but for the same reason as not upping to 4gb, why fix what aint broken? Smacktalks Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 Well i've just set up this PC and i'm well happy with the deal. The widescreen monitor makes a huge difference, I can actually see the ends of the "blades" on the ST background now. Rating wise, it's rated 4.6 by Windows in the Control Panel, but I think my other PC is rated slightly higher. Gonna wait until I get my other one back and comapre the two before deciding which to keep. Quote
Aero Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Windows 7 is legit too, Aero. aye, if ur a beta tester its free for what, like a year then you'll hav to patch it or something? tho my bro is impressed enough to contemplate paying for it.... my ratin is only 4 lol but assuming thats outta 5 it'll do me Quote
